HHS has ALL-WORLD Josh Connor back at RB and ALL-STATE Austin Collinsworth at DB returning. Along with returning starters Adam Dempsey, OL; Michael Laber, DL. But remember these names: Cody Rosenhagen, Brandon Roller, Oliver Head, Clint Crawford, Jake Turner, Jerrod Frank, Will Bardo, Tony Guidugli...any or all of these guys could appear on next season's all star lists. Not to mention the "unknown soldier" working their butt off in the weight room to get B-S-F (bigger-stronger-faster) who may surprise us all!

 

Write this down, Brandon Roller will have an All State Year at Highlands as a Junior and will start getting D-1 looks. If this kid grows another inch or two he will definitely get the looks.

 

Conner will get his carries and TD's, Austin will be the best shutdown Corner in NKY and another All State player. The rest is up in the air as far as who will standout.

Well, in order to do this the 'Birds will have to go to Cincinnati Colerain and defeat the Cardinals, a very tough feat indeed!

I am not sure about the "team" at Pendleton Co but definitely will have Ryan Stegman in the backfield. Ryan rushed for over 1400 yds this past season and he plans on setting more new records at Pendleton his senior year. He is a hard worker and very talented on the field, seems to slip through defenders, he can cut and run very well. Also one tough kid, reminds of the enegizer bunny, he never seems to run out of steam.

15-0 is the goal! Colerain is the Trot-Madison of '08. IF we can get past them, 15-0 becomes a REAL possibility. We will be undefeated in NKY for sure...maybe KY! Talent is comparable...heart is to be determined! D-line will be anchored by Michael Laber and Cody Rosenhagen. O-Line will be anchored by the only returning starter, Adam Dempsey. I have complete faith that HHS' coaches will fill in the blanks. They were in a similar spot last year and developed into one of HHS' BEST offensive lines EVER. Well, I'll say this... IF (and granted, this is a HUGE if), Highlands goes up to Cincy and knocks off Colerain in week 2, the 2008 HHS squad is going to set itself up very nicely in the discussion for "best HHS team EVER" if they take care of business within the state of KY. Again, this is a big "if," but it should be (and I am sure, will be) a huge motivating factor for the 'Birds as they prepare for 2008.

 

I know a lot of HHS fans (myself included) have some mixed feelings about playing first-rate out-of-state competition like Colerain, but one great thing about it is that by scheduling these kinds of games (plus games against solid KY competition), the coaches allow their team a legitimate shot at true prep football greatness!!!!

 

It worked out perfectly in 2007, as the Bluebirds were involved in the Herbie and won against a talented Ohio team (Trotwood-Madison), and then beat two 2007 KY state champions away from home (LexCath and Central), defeated a 2006 state champion twice (CovCath), and beat two 2006 state runner-up teams (Ryle and Bowling Green). By going 15-0, they earned themselves some national recognition in the MaxPreps poll.

Besides Rob Kues and Mark Kelly...who does NCC have coming back? Any linemen??

 

Jake Smith is back at center off the top of my head. They did lose an awful lot on the defensive side. I believe that their safety is back, #82. If so, that will help solidify their secondary b/c he was very good in both run support and against the pass. Other than that, I believe that it will be a toss up on positions. The good thing about that though is that NewCath has much more athletic ability now than it did 10 years ago. I believe that the program is in a position to reload more than just rebuild. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Ludlow returns alot of players at the skill positions. The backfield (rb's) all return and the QB got valuable playing time when Rouse was injured. I would hope that Braydon Mills will have a great final season on both sides of the ball as well as Derek King, Josh Montooth, and Ronny Banks.

I look for Josh Montooth to have a stellar SR season for the Panther's! "Turn the Mongoose Loose!!"

HC always has some playmakers. The coaching is a little to be desired. The 06 and the 07 teams was IMO the best teams HC has had since they started the program. The 06 team needed disipline, the 07 team needed the right plays for curtain players and spread the O around. Not run the ball every play of every down. JMO
