Clemmons was a beast tonight. Ate the Comets up. West was down by 20 some before cutting the lead to 8 in the forth, but couldn't completely get back into the game. West was ice cold and careless with the ball in the first half, Bath took advantage. Clemmons is a top 3 player in the region IMO. Side note the officiating was horrible in this one...but wasn't the reason West lost.

Clemons led the Wildcats with 35.

Barker led West with 25.

Any other stats on the game GO Radio.

I personally would like to see basketball go back to being officiated like the old days, when it was referred to as a non-contact sport.

Then it would be much easier for the refs to be more consistent...

When there are a bunch of fouls called, refs hear, let them play....when someone gets fouled hard the refs hear, you better call something before someone gets hurt.

It looks like to me that people are inconsistent about the way the game should be called.

I guess thats part of it, who knows?

Let them play. No need for a foul call 60 ft. away from the basket when it's just a little bump or a minor hand check. That is all i was saying.

Now we are getting somewhere...I will go on record as saying "I agree with you 100%". :thumb:

I also think that your description is like advantage/disadvantage...if it does not have an affect on the play or force a turnover, let it go. But if it gets nasty inside where the big-boys play, clean it up.

Is it fair to say that we are now seeing eye-to-eye? :creepy:

Yes, as long as a minor bump doesn't cause a turnover or slow the ball handler significantly, why slow down the game to call a foul. You really have to call the nasty stuff when people go into the lane, that could get dangerous if you dont. I think we are seeing eye to eye. Good post Rock

First let me say I have no idea who officiated this game but after looking at the box score in todays Independent, I assume one of them might have been Jim Hicks old college roommate.......Personal Fouls: BATH 19 WEST 23 (same disparity in foul calls in the Bath/Rose Hill game) Free Throws: BATH 25 of 35 WEST 15 of 24 (similar disparity in free throws from Bath/Rose Hill) Bath MAKES more free throws than West attempts.....If you remember when these stats went the other direction in favor of Baths opponent then it was inferred by Bath fans and coaches that somthing deceitful must be going on....The question was asked, "How can the foul shots be so lopsided?"

Here we see the same thing.....My point is that just because the fouls and/or free throws are not even does not in any way indicate the consistency or quality of the officiating. You cant have it both ways....when you lose with such stats you blame the officials then when you win with such stats you want to take credit for the win.....cant be both ways.

Officials are going to make honest mistakes, but one call clearly stands out from last night's game. The two officials nearest this particular play ruled a jump ball; however, the official who was the farthest away came in and overruled the other two officials and called a foul on Barker. In my humble opinion, this trio lost their credibility for the remainder of the game. I also think there should be some stipulation on officials not officiating games at their alma mater. Officiating is a tough job and I don't see too many people standing in line to include me.

Goodness gracious son, how in the world would we ever have any officials if we heap a bunch of "stipulations" on them? First we'll keep them from officiating their alma mater. Next, ex-roommates are a no-no. Then they can't mediate games where their spouses went to school, or where their kids go currently. The skinny of it all is this: If they aren't unbiased, they have no business being arbiters in the first place. Shoot, do you think that Mills Lane ( he was a boxing referee by the way, and I saw him on TV not long ago in a black robe as some kind of judge, cracked me up ) was biased one way or another towards Frazier or Holmes? Boys, it is simple, the officials do the best they can, sometimes we should all just relax and let them officiate and realize they'll make mistakes. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

Only in America, baby!

Now that's a great post!!

Wonder how Bigcat08 feels about this post?? Maybe the last name of one of the officials last night was "Bath"??

LIke i said, Bath was the better team last night, they didn't need help from the officials, and didn't get it, imo. The out of the 42 fouls called i would say atleast 20 of them were in the back court or just inside of the halfcourt line, while Matt Logan, for instance, got tackled trying to grab a loose ball, and nothing was called, but atleast someone from West picked up the ball for an easy layup. I don't think the ref that graduated from West is out to get them, I think he may try to overcompensate sometimes to seem as unbiased as possible. He's usually not to bad though in most other games. Once again, I don't think that anyone tried to cheat either team I just think that the fouls were too inconsistent.
