Monte Merrick of Bell has been named to the top 12 kickers in the country for his class according to the link below.

He is the best kicker I have ever seen in a high school game. Scott County has a very nice kicker too, UK and UofL need to get on these kids. They are both worthy of a scholarship.

Congratulations to Merrick! Special teams were a big part of the Bobcats success this past season. All of us on Log Mountain look forward to his fourth and final year as a Bobcat starter. He came close to breaking the state field goal distance record last year with near misses from 58, 59, and 60 yards. He made the one with plenty of room to spare against Rockcastle from 56 in September. Hope he sets the record this year. Let's also hope he gets a chance to kick in the Pizza Box come December.....or have they pushed the playoffs this year clear back into January? LOL!:dancingpa

I will agree with the above poster, Merrick is the best kicker I have ever seen.

The 56-yarder he kicked against the Rockets would have been good from at LEAST 60 yards, no joke. That completely deflated the Rockets for the rest of the game. He is a special talent for a special team.

I just read the article and Merrick is the 7th highest rated Underclass player in the nation :thumb:

From what schools has he received scholarship offers. He sure sounds like he is a lot better than what UK currently has.

TomLandry or SoutheastBell can correct me if I am wrong, but he DREAMS of kicking for UT in college, doesn't he? Lets hope (UK) that UT doesn't offer him.

You are correct, UT would be a wonderful place for any young man to spend his collegiate days. Monte, I'm sure, would greatly enjoy kicking off in front of 107,000 in Knoxville. Lets just hope that mr. merrick stays grounded and not forget what got him where he is today, hardwork and discipline.:thumb:

Raider....sorry about Larkey if that is true....I went on the site and clicked on top recruits. There the list of ratings is. Merrick was one of ten who had 5-star recruiting rating by Nike camp, and is #6 in nation and top kicker/punter on that list. The other list of "The Top Twelve" is alphabetical and not by rank it would seem.

Bell has a tremendous kid and a true weapon in Merrick. Wish him the best in his final year.

I always thought he was a big UK fan, I thought someone said that on here one time. I guess it would make sense to want to kick for UT, isn't he from Tennessee? Sure would like to have him kicking for the Big Blue.

Guys, I don't know where he wants to kick, but I sure hope the city starts with an "L" and ends with "exington"
