Bishop Brossart 66 St. Patrick 62

Featured Replies

I will take the Saints over the Mustangs 99 out of 100 times. Brossart played the best they possibly could have while the Saints had an off night.

Let's see they played three times--A one point win by St. Pats, a 12 point win by St. Pats that was very close throughout, and a 4 point Brossart win. How you can equate this to 99 out of 100 is beyond me?? St. Pats has far more experience, and a couple of superior athletes in Anderson and Owens; while Brossart has more upside and far better coaching. Guessing if they played 100 times, St. Pats might win the majority; but the Mustangs got the one that counted--That may have been by design??

St.Pat played a very tough game against Deming, and then Augusta. Brossart beat a down and weak Paris team before beating St.Pat by 4. I give credit to Brossart for winning the one that counts, but St.Pat is by far the more better team IMO.

How about "Congratulations to Brossart and go represent the region well in Richmond"?? That would have been their response if St. Pats had won?? Win with class--Lose with class!!

Somebody from St. Patrick please answer this for me. Is it St. Pat or St. Pats? Just curious.

Good point. The draw for SP and Deming was as bad as possible, while BB got the absolutely best draw possible. But so it goes a random draw.

I also agree with the comment about the upside for Brossart. They will only get stronger in the next couple of years.

St. Pat, but it really does not matter.

Should there be some kind of seeding in this tournament, the district, and region?

It would be easy to seed districts. Some districts already do that. I just don't see how the All "A" could be seeded. It would be hard for all the teams to play each other before that time. With some needed to get district and conference games in. Someone mentioned on another thread having the coaches get together a cople of weeks before and seeding on their opinions. IMO that could get very touchy or political to a certain extent.

This year was a rare year in which the 4 best teams were all in the same bracket. Plus, some having an easier way than others in that very same bracket. You just have to suck it up and go on. To win tournaments you have to be good and lucky. Brossart is just that. They are a sound and well coached team that got the luck of meeting a St. Patrick team that had already had two big games that week. But when it is all said and done. Brossart did what they had to do. They won their games and now they are off to Richmond. I wish them nothing but Luck in representing the 10th Region next week.

Actually a better draw for Brossart, Deming or St. Pat would have been alone in the lower bracket, where any of them would have had a rather easy path to the finals?? Admittedly a tougher path to the semis for the Saints.

Good points BC--Seeding would be near impossible, especially while keeping the regular scheduling intact.

The more better team???

I believe that St. Patrick had two of the better, more experienced varsity players in Owens and Anderson. I also think that on this night, and in this game, Jacob Rieger and Greg Stortz stepped up their games and were right there with the big name players from St. Pat.

As far as the better team, we played twice on neutral courts and on three or four different occasions the Mustangs led the Saints by ten points. Each time St. Patrick came back to tie the game or take the lead - a wash! In the game that we played in Maysville the two teams were tied at 35 at mid-third quarter, only to have St. Pats pull away and win by 12. If you saw the 10th Semis game, you might realize that Brossart just might have had a few things in our bag of tricks that we didn't show that night.

A team is the sum total of all of its parts. It is more than just two great players. Jacob Rieger fouled out with just over four minutes to play in the game and we still managed to win when a different player hit six blue-chip free-throws, a role player came off the bench and hit the biggest basket of his life, grabbed some key rebounds, and made the St. Pat stars alter their shots. Drew Kremer had a major league block of a Chris Owens shot, etc., etc., etc.,

Our coaches do a great job in preparing our team for a target opponent. We identified St. Patrick as the team that we would have to beat to get out, back when the draw came out and began working on our game plan from then on.

St. Patrick is a fine basketball team. I truly admire Chris Owen and Nick Anderson and respect Coach Hinson, but I think that we are also a fine basketball team, who is starting to create its own identity and gets better each trip out.

So, I don't really think that St. Patrick is necessarily the "more better team." They are both fine basketball teams. Give the devil, or in this case - the Mustang, his due.

The draw for the 10th Region "A" is held very early in the summer (or spring) of the previous year.

If it were to be seeded it would have to be done by some sort of rankings poll. With limited scheduling opportunities it would be near impossible for all of the participating teams to compete against each other at all, let alone by the second week in January.

This year it would have made for a fantasitc finals, if the script would have played out as it did.

Well stated, Mustang. A very good post.

Well I'll be the only St. Patrick's person on here to say that St. Pat is a great team and gives Brossart credit. And yes congrats, but brossart and class this year havent gone hand in hand as previously said. I saw the game they lost to deming...coaches did not show much class, but thats over with. Good luck at State Stangs, represent us well like you usually do!

St Pat comes back from 10 down in the 4th to tie the game, but can't finish. Brossart hits a bunch of free throws late to seal the win. Congrats to the Mustangs on once again showing why they are the class of the A schools in the 10th region. Brossart will play the winner of Bracken Co/Calvary Christian tomorrow night at 7pm.

Tough loss for the Saints who are playing so well this year. May have run out of gas a bit in the fourth but gave it their best effort. Nothing to hang their heads about but keep on getting better and enjoy the ride. The Saints are fun to watch as they always play hard and give their best. This is all anyone can ask.
