Pineville 54 Cumberland 52, 13th All A

I think Johnson needs more touches on the inside. I do not think anyone in the region can guard him on the block, but they can outside of the lane.

Absolutely, put him on the block and get him the ball like they did in the regional game against Clay County last year, make him go to work and if he cant get it done in there then Cumberland will not beat good teams. Look at Cumberland's two biggest games against the two best teams they have played this year: Johnson scored 5 against Hazard and 10 against Pineville, an average of 7.5 a game. That is just not getting it done, if they dont put him on the block for the entire game and challenge him to get it done like a top 3 player in the region is supposed to they will not get it done as a team. If you are 6'5" and more athletic than most kids you are playing against it is a must that you get it done In The Paint!!! Where do all the great players get it done? In The Paint At The Rim!!!

Cumberland- Talented team with the best big man in the Region (Johnson). I would like to see Johnson and Wilson play more with there back to the goal.

Pineville- They have two solid players with a good standing shooter on the wing. I think they will be a dangerous team come March.

People need to stand in the shoes of a coach before they criticize coaching decisions. Here is the thing most people don't realize. Yeah it is probably true that some coaches that do not have much experience may have trouble during pressure situations but at the same time I don't know of any coach that is going to purposely make a bad decision that will effect their team in a negative way. Coaches are trying their best and in this day and age coaches have everybody in town that thinks they know more about the sport that than the coach does. Some of these people that know so much about basketball and the decisions that should be made need to apply for a coaching job and try it for themselves.

I'm not saying that a coach purposely makes a bad decision. You must agree that if a coach puts his team against the best competition that he himself learns how to make in game decisions better. Decisions that he has to make playing great competition only builds confidence for him and also lets his team gain more confidence in him. Playing mediocre teams never puts you in that type of situation. Your talent wins games for you. Therefore when you do play the good teams you haven't been tested and you can make bad decisions. I can make those comments because I've been in both types of situations and know that you definately learn more from the better competition. I have to blame the schedule makers for the Redskins being in these situations. They could have play a tougher schedule but they chose not to and it shows in their team and their coaching.

I think Day would obviously have something to say about that best big man in the region comment.

Pineville has 4 very solid players. A big man with touch that stays out of foul trouble in Day, a guard that can get his own shot and create for others in Strange, a very good shooter in Warren, and Mr. Do-Everything in Jeffrey.

Jim Schue,

I'm all for playing a tough schedule. But have you been to Cumberland? They have to travel a lot to play good teams! Or make teams come a long way to them. Id imagine geography is a great obstacle in them scheduling.

To add to that, I'm sure it is tough for Pineville to get a schedule with top teams and get in top tournaments because of their past of poor teams.

Yeah for whatever reason an annual showdown between Pineville and LexCath hasn't been put into place. Pineville has by far its best bball team since atleast 96.

Again, they knew they had a good class well enough in advance to start lining up games a couple years out. Perhaps it takes some working the phones, but if you want what's best for your team, you make the sacrifice and work the phones. Otherwise, all you're doing is rolling up a deceptively good record that won't mean anything when you get beat in the first round of the region because your team wasn't tested enough.

Yes, I have. Sometimes you have to make heavy sacrifices when the big-picture goal is in sight.

What would your suggestion on opponents be? Strange was a coach at Bell Co. for a while and Allen Co. Scottsville, which is quite a ways away. I'd like to hear Pineville's options for games.

I know you're trying to be funny, but all you're really doing is making excuses that allow you to keep playing the "no respect" card. Can't have it both ways.

If you have a good team, put it out there and test it. If you're not going to do so, don't whine when your 18-2 team doesn't get a sniff of the statewide rankings.

Work the boosters and hit the pavement.

If you've been to Cumberland then you can figure that money for traveling would be an issue for them.

Has Pineville whined about it?
