January 23, 200818 yr I agree. How can the question be the effects of discovering extra-terrestrial life of any kind on the creation story without talking about passages from scripture? It doesn't seem to make much sense as a premise, but... here you go. I think physics will prohibit us from ever finding intelligent life or them ever finding us. The distances are simply too difficult to overcome. As such, I'm not going to bother with the idea, except to say that the discovery of intelligent life on other planets would be THE MOST remarkable discovery in history. Accepting the creation story as a literal account of history, I don't think that the discovery of life on other planets would necessarily undo the stories of Genesis. In the story, the only people it mentions God creating are Adam and Eve, and yet their child Cain finds a wife somewhere. This is only one example, but it seeems clear that there were humans created even though they weren't explicitly mentioned. Whether that's what you're looking for, I can't say, but like I said above, I don't think that the discovery of other forms of life necessarily undoes the idea that God created the universe and everything in it. I agree...with everything except the literal account of creation. :thumb:
January 23, 200818 yr Let propose that there is Intelligent and or Microbial life in the universe. How does this affect the creation story. For once, lets not quote Bible Verses as a defense. That is like a Muslim quoting scipture to a Jew, the jew doesnt care. Neither do some of the people on this board. It doesn't.
January 23, 200818 yr I agree with others that it is hard to talk about the creation story without using Scripture. That's like asking to discuss this year's Super Bowl without talking about the Patriots.
January 23, 200818 yr "Lets not quote Bible Verses as a defense." Defense to what? Defense to the possibility that there is other life in this universe? Why not? Since we have been scanning the skies for decades and not even hit upon the first radio frequency no matter where we point the scanners, I think a scriptural Creation argument is as worthy a discussion an any. Incidentally, I believe in the inerrancy and inspiration of Scripture, I believe the Creation story, and I also strongly believe that there is probably life and even intelligent life beside ourselves (sidebar - are we really intelligent??) in this universe. The scripture that sticks out at the moment on this issue would be that we are created in His image. How about the reverse. You who believe there is a conflict between the question of extraterrestrial life and scripture point out where you believe scripture indicates a conflict.
January 23, 200818 yr Apparently Not Haven't seen any ammunition from either you or Jim. What are your thoughts on your topic?
January 24, 200818 yr Gooch, in your opening you state something about not using scripture. So I'm doing what you asked, now you are saying something because I choose to obey your wish. Some of you people....OK...John 3:16.
January 24, 200818 yr Haven't seen any ammunition from either you or Jim. What are your thoughts on your topic? But don't quote scientific theories "as a defense. That is like a Muslim quoting scipture to a Jew, the jew doesnt care. Neither do some of the people on this board.":D
January 29, 200818 yr 0000000 That's All I Know.... ????????? All I Have.... I'd say were Not AloNe......
January 30, 200818 yr It will not be an issue for those that believe and have an open mind, but those that do not believe in God would use any discovery as some kind of final say that there is no God. The Bible as stated above never says ONLY in explaining creation in Genesis. I think it would be very arrogant of all of us to think we could be alone in all of the universe. I also agree with the poster that said physics would in all likelihood keep us from ever making first contact. God Bless you all.
January 30, 200818 yr I find it hard to believe, than in all the vastness of this universe, that we are the only intelligent beings. As Getslow says, physics will prohibit us from ever knowing for sure...but what if they have the same Bible we have and the same beliefs..and what if they interpret things the same or even DIFFERENT than we do? Does that go against the theory of creation? Not necessarily. In my opinion God can do whatever he likes...so why should we be so narrow minded as to believe that He could not duplicate what he has done here and see how mankind deals with it on another planet?
