Lincoln County Football

Althought no public announcement has been made, it looks like Larry French is leaving to take the Boyle County job. In the process, much has been written here about the difference in support for the football coach at the two schools.

Coach French has said that it is not about money. He will make about double for coaching at Boyle County as opposed to Lincoln County but in real dollars it is only about $8,000. That by itself doesn't seem like a good reason to make a change. It seems like Boyle County's desire to win is the difference.

My phone has been busy today. Equally knowledgeable people have told me differing sides of the story. Some say the support has been more than sufficient, others say that the school system could do more.

Everyone agrees, though, that this lack-of-support mantra is going to hurt the recuriting process for a new coach.

Does Lincoln County have an administrative support problem as it relates to the football program? If so what needs to change?

I think Lincoln is and should be an attractive position for a coach.

Historically speaking they have been successful (very successful) in the past under different head coaches.

Wooldridge had some very good teams in '79 and '81. (The other 2 were just a notch below).

Philips team in '88 was one of the best Lincoln teams I ever saw and had they not run into hurricane force winds vs. Paducah Tighlman in the AAA semi-finals they would have been on the carpet that year.

Both Phillips and Jaggers put teams in the AAA finals.

I think the track record is solid for a good coaching candidate.

What the situation is with financial and administrative support I can't tell you but I think they have a world of possibilities.

My first call would be to the other name that keep popping up for the BC job, and I am not talking about Guy Morris.

I don't think the school will have a hard time selling the job, it seems they have hired more than adequate coaches in boys and girls basketball, and football as of late.

Not many public schools have had the luxery of a Larry French, Jeff Jackson and a Don Story.

I feel like the supporters and the fans of the school need to realize French is gone, and it's time to move on. Be positive and find the next great LC football coach.

Why is that?

Tilghman played in the same conditions .. maybe they were just the better team.

I'm not going to debate a 20 year old game. I just felt that year that once PT got the lead and then the wind it was difficult for Lincoln to make up the difference. Sorry if my post came across as the the notion that Tighlman didn't deserve the win, I just felt on another day Lincoln could have pulled that one out.

Back to Regular Programming......

Does something need to change at Lincoln County? If so, what specifically needs to be done?

You station manager/owners never let the Johnny Fever and Venus Flytraps of the world have any fun !!!!!

IMO there are several things that can be done for the Lincoln program.

When Robbie Lucas took the job, Chris Pardue apparently interviewed for it as well. The job paid I think around 6,600.00 for the Head Coach. I don't know French's salary, but maybe that is an issue. Maybe more teaching jobs for assistant coaches at the high school. A new score board is a possibility. In school weight lifting, and maybe an expansion of the locker room/ weight room combo they have now.

Coaches coach for the challenge, which is why the changing of coaches is always happening, year in and year out. I can't blame French for wanting the challenge at Boyle and if he goes, wish him the best. As for Lincoln, either something isn't clicking and or the talent may be running out.

No matter what the circumstances, coaches need a strong administration support, community support and time. You can either walk into a program with a winning tradition and talent and compete for a state championship or you can be patient and build because its hard to do it over night.

"If you build it, they will come!"
