Beechwood

Hey, where are all the Beechwood posters? The football thread is full of them. Doesn't anyone support the girls/boys basketball programs? I went there many moons ago and all the sports were very well supported, what has happened?

 

One of you Beechie Tech alumni or anyone give me some scoop on the Lady Tigers. I watched them play once, being in town for business, against NCC so I didn't get a good understanding of their team w/the exception of #24 and it looked like she took some very good knowledge and skill from Boone back to Beechwood, defense, ball handling, rebounding, passing, good looking shot(just didn't fall), best they had!

 

What else? How does the rest of the season look for them? Looking at their schedule, Ludlow is by far their toughest opponent, could they win the rest?

They have a real challenge with Ludlow this week, but I understand the transfer from Boone is a solid player.

Is that player Sammy Bolling? She is talented. I believe she was at Beechwood, left, then came back. There are several other talented girls who used to attend Beechwood now playing at other schools.

The Beechwood faithful don't support their girls basketball program very well. No offense to my Beechwood friends but they tend to throw all their support behind their programs that are winning. (football, baseball, volleyball and now in the last few years the band). Usually only parents of the players show up for their games and thats to bad.

I guess they have gotten spoiled over the years.

Bowling is a nice player but she isn't near enough to keep the Tigers in the game against Ludlow. I'll take the team down on the river by whatever Coach Stamm decides he wants it to be. 20 plus...

Too bad Casey Smith(NDA) and Devon Beasley(Conner) did'nt come back:ylsuper: I did not see a girl playing the other night that played last yr that was a tall slender girl who could rebound and was a decent scorer. Beechwood could really use her. Is she hurt or did she transfer as well?

Not sure about the Beechwood program but I do know that Sam Bowling is a quality guard who can handle the ball and light it up from the outside. Good luck to both teams in this one.

Beechwood parents have proposed that BW add girls soccer but some parents (maybe a majority???) are against it because it will , in their minds, hurt other successful programs. That would seem to support your thinking, Joe, that its only supported if they are winning. These folks would rather deny the opportunity for girls who love soccer the chance to represent BW on the pitch because it MIGHT cause problems with volleyball. Let me be clear that not EVERYONE thinks this way but apparently more than a few do.

 

The short-sightedness and selfishness of that mentality is amazing and bothersome.

While I can argue that it is related to one of the posts, I will say that when I posted my response I was not aware of the thread in the soccer forum.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Being a Ludlow fan, I think, you should know as well as anyone that it is impossible for the smaller schools to compete in every sport .
