Huckabee and the Apocolypse

Featured Replies

This is an opinion column but a well-researched one. This is what I personally worry about when the religious right starts meddling in government. Will Huckabee want to practice government and foreign relations based on the interpretations of prophecy that many Southern Baptists and evangelicals adhere to?

The link to this piece of tripe is disappointing. By what measure do you consider this well-researched or authoritative?

Here you have a mean-spirited attack against a candidate based upon nothing more than "Hey, look who is friends are! Look who his friends are!" Let me summarize what this idiot has written:

He's friends with a right-wing radio nut! (and then, later, whom he "left behind" now that the dude is 78 and stricken with cancer!)

He's friends with a guy that is head of an 18,000 person Pentecostal Church that believes the end times are nigh!

He's friends with the writer of the Left Behind series that talks about rapture!

He's friends with Chuck Norris! (who is only a B actor!)

He said a Palenstinian state should only be established outside biblical Israel! That must mean he is calling for the "ethnic-cleansing" and "forced relocation" of the Palestinian world!

He was minister at a "backwater" Arkansas church!

Can this guy be any more condescending? Do you actually buy this stuff?

Link is blocked for me, but I will go on what Hearsay said and it seems like an effort to weaken his candidacy as some sort of religious zealot.

Consider yourself fortunate. I wasted several minutes reading a poorly written attack piece.

This is well-researched? Simply sounds like a liberal getting their digs in. It is tripe. I worry about the radical left, it is a far more frightening thought in my opinion. :D

Many religious righties want certain things to occur to go along with their interpretation of prophecy. Many of these folks are Southern Baptists (I should know, I was one once) and I want to know that Huckabee as a former SBC minister isn't going to start attacking Iran or forcing a one-state Israel-Palestine solution to bring about the rapture. If we are going to put up hit pieces saying George Soros, freemasons, or the reanimated corpse of Vladimir Lenin are supporting the Democrats then what's wrong with hearing the other side. As I said it was an OPINION piece.

You also said it was well-researched. I can find you well-researched pieces about George Soros' undermining of this country, though you may have to wait on the fremasons and dead Lenin. But if you're going to try and present "the other side," at least find something that is palatable. This is fatuous drivel.

As to your concern that Huckabee will reinvent the Crusades, the evidence that he will not abuse his power toward those ends is that he has not already done so, for instance by passing Executive Orders in Arkansas that would require the depotation of all Muslims in his state. Unless, of course, you believe that he has secretly been biding his time for those actions until he acheived the Presidency . . . Hmmmmmm

It was well researched. Huckabee caved to the radio nut by releasing the convicted rapist (can't remember his name off hand). He speaks at Hagee's church and consistently makes references to God steering people to vote for him when speaking at these places. Is it pandering? Probably. But he's a minister and I've known dozens of SBC ministers that I would not want within 100 miles of "the button". I'm not voting for a Republican regardless, but Huckabee worries me.

Are you suggesting that man can determine when the end of times will be and not God?

The previous governor commuted his sentence.

The parole board let him out.

Governor Huckabee: No. I did not. Let me categorically say that I did not. And it's really interesting, if people want to really look into that record. Here's the chronology, and here's the timeline. I'm going to try to do it as briefly as I can, because it's been delved into repeatedly, normally during an election year.

In 1992, Bill Clinton was governor; Jim Guy Tucker was Lieutenant Governor. And during Bill Clinton's governorship, while he was campaigning for president, Jim Guy Tucker signed the papers to commute the sentence of Wayne DuMond to parole eligibility. That's what made him parole eligible in 1992. He had been convicted of rape in Forest City Arkansas, during time of awaiting trial, he was hogtied and castrated; his testicles were later placed in a jar on the desk of a sherriff.

I was not elected to anything at that time; I was a candidate for the United States Senate. I was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1993; in 1996, Wayne DuMond had requested another commutation for time served because the parole board had not granted parole even though he was parole eligible.

Let me make it clear, governors in Arkansas cannot parole anybody. The parole process is separated from governor; the governor can commute a sentence to make it parole eligible.

The parole board, the following year, early 97 approved his parole plan after I had denied the further commutation.

Huckabee aggressively pushed for this man's release.

2nd response to the same story. I know that the political method is to keep slinging the mud despite the truth and home some sticks, but this story is completely false to what is being thrown out there.

Governor Jim Guy Tucker gave executive clemency to Wayne DuMond, and commuted his sentence to 39.5 years. This action made Wayne DuMond immediately eligible for parole.

The parole board was made up entirely of Democrats appointed by Democrat Governors Bill Clinton and Jim Guy Tucker

Governor Huckabee either denied Wayne DuMond's clemency request, or took no action (which is the same as a denial) on four separate occasions.

Governor Huckabee did not parole Wayne Dumond. Governor Huckabee had no authority to do that. Governors in Arkansas don't grant parole-the parole board does.

The fact remains that Governor Huckabee didn't commutate, pardon, parole or grant any form of clemency to Wayne DuMond.

I'll be so glad when this election is over.

Dumond is just one criminal that Huckster pressured the parole board to release b/c he was pressured by evangelical ministers.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2007/12/14/huckabee/

Well, the Dems in Arkansas, Bill and Hillary, must be weak-minded as they were pressured (remember ALL the parole board was appointed by the two Ark Democrat governors) by the first Ark governor in what was it, 160 years????

I'll be so glad when this election is over.

Why? Doesn't the primary process for 2012 start in February of 2009?
