Brutus Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Watts scores 28 and Phillips adds 19 as the Raiders win on the road.
SouthernSportsFan Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 This was actually a pretty close game up until the middle or end of the third. From there on out, McCreary was simply too much for the bigger Cardinals. McCreary should win the district.. their first time in many, many years. This region is really a two-team race: Lincoln County and McCreary Central.

This region is really a two-team race: Lincoln County and McCreary Central. McCreary should win the district this year no question. However, I don't know about the 12th Region being a two team race. Lincoln is a notch above everyone else until someone in the region can prove otherwise. Outside of the Patriots I don't see McCreary being head and shoulders above the rest of the region. Somerset is 11-4, beat the Raiders last season and have almost their entire team back and West Jessamine has already defeated the Raiders this year and played Lincoln a very tight game as well. Lincoln is the team to beat but if they stumble there's about 4-5 other teams that could win it.
region12hoops Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I wouldn't say they "should" win the district just yet. Despite the two comfortable wins over Wayne that doesn't mean that beating them a third time to win the district is going to be anything but a battle. Wayne is very capable of beating anyone in the region on a given night. I agree that Lincoln has seperated themselves at the top of the region. The other contenders are about even in my estimation. Those include McCreary, Wayne, Somerset, Boyle, W Jess and Mercer. McCreary may have Waynes number this year but they are 1-1 against the others and haven't played Somerset or Boyle. By the way does anyone know district tourn sites in the 12th this year.
The Breeze Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Watts scores 28 and Phillips adds 19 as the Raiders win on the road. Is Watts a soph. or freshman this year? He is a real talent in 3 sports.

The Breeze Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 He's a sophmore. Thanks, hope to see him play soon.

They are clearly the class of the 48th, the tournament is on their home floor, and they're basically locks to go to the region. Obviously it will be a battle, although McCreary walloped Wayne the entire game at home. Wayne is capable of beating anyone, however, they haven't the passed two years. McCreary, Wayne, Somerset, Boyle, West Jessamine, and Mercer aren't on the same level. McCreary destroyed Wayne, beat Mercer by double-digits, and lost on the road at the begining of the season by four to West Jessamine in an extremely hostile enviroment and an extremely off night by Watts. AverageJoe, you have some of it right: McCreary should win their district. However, comparing McCreary with their loss at Somerset last year is way out there. McCreary hosts Somerset this year and I assume it will be plenty different. But... if we were talking about wins last year, McCreary went to Lincoln County and won on the Patriots (the region champions) home floor.

The point that I was trying to make is that the Region is far from a 2 team race. The only team that has done anything to seperate itself from the pack so far is Lincoln County. Outside of the Patriots McCreary is good but they aren't really signifigantly better than Somerset, West Jessamine (You can't dismiss the loss to them that easily, it was as early in the year for them as it was for the Raiders), and Boyle County. Any of those teams are more than capable of beating the others.
modok Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Last year, McCreary went to Lincoln County and won on the Patriots (the region champions) home floor. The Patriots also played that game without Ryan Young and Noah Keeton....the two leading scorers on this years team.
SouthernSportsFan Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 The Patriots also played that game without Ryan Young and Noah Keeton....the two leading scorers on this years team. But, were they the two leading scorers last year?
SouthernSportsFan Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Please don't take my argument out of context. I'm not saying that McCreary is any better than Lincoln, however, if the two played ten games, Lincoln wouldn't roll over McCreary.
UnderPar Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 But, were they the two leading scorers last year? Yep!
gchs_uk9 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Yep! Correct, but that Patriot team doesn't go to Rupp Arena without Braxton Miller, who isn't there now! By the way, good to see you back UnderPar.
