I am ashamed at our current high school football system....If we want 6 classes fine with me, but then cut the number of playoff teams per district from 4 to 2....that would make for some awesome games right away...and ensure you have to win some games to get to the post season. As far as KY teams faring well against other states....I think we are getting there....being that 20 years ago, many wouldn't have thought we could dare compete...and now we have beaten some of the other states' powers...we just need to keep on, keeping on.

You are talking one or two teams from Kentucky. The entire state needs to get with the program. That cannot be accomplished without the KHSAA leading the way and going in the right direction. We have the athletes and the talent. What we don't have is the adults to think outside the box and look at the future of sports in this great state that I love. It just kills me to see the direction that KHSAA is going.

In summary, Ky schools need better games. A good point was brought up about the financial burden. What if double headers were set up at some of the larger stadiums? For example, Male and Manual Stadium, X's stadium, and Marshall Stadium ( T) all hold over 5000 and do a great job hosting toy bowls and jamborees all day long. While playing at papJohns is nice, I think having a Louisville team host the teams at their facilities and eat at the cafeterias would cut the expenses down.

 

Basketball and Baseball has the LIT and maybe the big four play at home against a power and host another school and call it the LIT. I know Male has hosted the Border wars games before and Manual allows Desales to play there but I believe X and Trinity have never allowed 2 high school teams to play on their field. Maybe have X and T play back to back and alternate the years. One thing I remember when X lost to Moeller at Paul Brown Stadium was the Elder cheering section coming in for their game against Highlands Chanting "GCL, GCL" during the end of the Moe- X game. Imagine having X play at Trinity against "INSERT OUT of STATE POWER NAME". Would the Trinity fans show up early and cheer for X? (I didn't hear Highlands' fans pulling for X either! What happened with Tony Danza's project?

I am surprised that any Trinity fan would be into moral victories, even if it was against one of the top teams in the country.

 

Not a Trinity fan, but I was in Dayton attending my daughters field hockey games that night. I listened to the game on the radio. Cincy X radio announcers were very complimentary of Trinity. I believe they said that was the most points scored on their team in over 4 years!!! How can you say they weren't competitive? Sounded like a very close game to me, untl the 4th qtr when depth factored in.

 

 

Jimmyref, regarding your question why KY may not compete. Those two public schools we played at in Dayton had nicer facilities than X or T. I thought the one stadium was a college facility. WHy Ohio can do it and we can't (public school facility wise) is beyond me. That was an eye opening weekend.

 

I have connections with folks down in Florida. They say if you want the best, you need to pay your HS players more. That's why they' re successful. They even brag about it in the papers like the Rainey kid at UF.

You know, I do the same. I root for the Rocks except against my Tigers. I didn't do that when I went there, but as an adult I cheer for any private school pretty much, except for a few in Lexington. Heck, I'm even a Notre Dame fan. :ylsuper:
