What a game! I have involved with high school basketball for 20 + years and this was the worst officiating crew that I have ever seen! I don't like to say that the officiating crews decide a game but here they did. South Laurel has a total of 5 teams fouls for the entire game. If the game is played on a nuetral floor Walton wins. There was no way that they were going to let Coach Wright loose to his old school.

I had a feeling the calls would not go are way against SL but Walton still played them tough. This team this year is going to be better then alot of people thought they would and that includes me. Glad to hear that the NKY schools got each others backs down there.

I have to agree 100%, the officials were absolutely horrible for this game. I think it is safe to say that none of those 3 officials will be officiating at the Sweet 16. As bad as the officiating was I felt that if WV had taken care of the ball they would still walk out with a victory.

 

The Boone County players were great from pregame until the final buzzer.

Sounds like the Bearcats made a good showing and could have possibly won. They seem to be playing well and I think they will only get better. I'm sure WV didn't get any calls but I'm reluctant to say that officials win or lose a game. There may be controversial calls in critical situations but the loss can not be totally blamed on them. I don't know what Walton's shooting percentage was but if they would have made a couple more shots or had a few less turnovers, the outcome might have been different. Hopefully, they will learn from this experience and continue to improve. Good to hear the BC boys supports their neighbors in southern Boone Co.

Has WV ever got a call in the history of their program? In case all you basketball fans haven't noticed 95% of the refs are bad. You have to overcome it and play ball. All in all a good showing by the Bearcats.

I agree with you that some of the WV fans on here constantly talk about how they had to overcome the refs, but in this case the fouls were somethin like 22-5. That is extremely lopsided and can't really be argued against.

Actually the difference in the fouls called was simple. South Laurel a much taller team took the ball inside more often and got fouled going to the basket. Walton-Verona came down and jacked up 3-pointers all night long. You are not going to get fouled a lot when you do that.

 

There were some missed calls that stood out to me, such as when SL was bringing the ball down court and pushed off a couple of times to make room for the dribbler. There was also a couple of calls the went the Bearcats' way.

 

Both teams played hard. South Laurel started 4 players that don't get to play very much at all. After trailing 13-10 going into the second quarter coach Wright put his real starters back in there and they went on to dominate the second quarter 25-8.

 

Both of these teams are good teams and deserve credit. I have seen far worse officiating in basketball games. I have seen worse this year.

When you shoot from beyond the 3-point arc all night and never take the ball to the basket then you aren't going to get fouled a lot. From what I understand WV is a very good 3-point shooting team and this is their game plan, so their fans better learn to deal with not shooting many free throws.

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. When your game plan is tailored around the 3-point shot, you won't shoot many free throws. We all know there are more fouls in the paint than beyond the arc.

Were not talking about shooting free throws here. It's about not making calls on one end of the floor and making them on the other. Hand checking on one end is hand checking on the other end. I am the first one that hates to complain about officiating once being one myself but this was just a bad game by the officials. I know that Walton will get into foul trouble because they go for steals and press but 5 team fouls for a game:confused:. It was not like all they did was just stand outside and play horse.

Nice post....Not! If you want, we could go back and take a look at posts from other schools and see if anyone else ever questions the officiating. I can guarantee that WV isn't the only one who does. As Scout said, it has nothing to do with how many free throws were shot. There were even South Laurels fans apologizing about how bad the officiating was. If you can't post anything about a thread thats knowledgable, then find another thread to post on. We can disagree...but lets please make it sensible.

Glad to hear that I am not the only fan that does not like the way games are beginning to be called. Too many times the officials take the game away from the kids. I did not see your game, but I have no doubt that the posts on here were justified in complaining. I also am a former high school official. It amazes me that some of these guys are calling varsity games.
