Talent has a lot to do with anyones coaching. You cant get blood out of a turnip no matter how much you know or how hard you squeeze. Good players make good coaches :ylsuper:

Hampton is very highly regarded. He is known as "Mr. March." That should tell people something. Anyone questioning his coaching should reconsider. Ask any of the area coaches what they think about him. Easy answer

Ashland wins buy 25, Lewis has alot of excperience just don't see them hanging around long in this one.

I am not going to disrespect thisman but I am wondering were he got his nickname from because I cant remember the last time Lewis was a conternder come March.

Show up at the District and Regional Tournaments. He has shown an uncanny ability to take teams with very little talent and win tournament games. no, he hasn't won the Region, but he has made some decent post season runs with teams that should not have made it past the 1st round, if they got to the Regional at all. I question whether some of the "name" coaches could have gotten as far with the same level of talent available.

I havent missed a regional tournament since 96. i remember Lewis having a good team in around 03 I think but thats its.

The good team was in 04. They got beat by ashland in the semifinals in triple overtime. Probably the best game ive witnessed, Tyler Clark was astounding, they just couldnt pull off the win.

In 2000 a TJ lykins led team gave boyd all they wanted in the semi finals. The LCHS lions lost in overtime to a team who went one to the sweet sixteen and came two points short of beating E-town. E-town was led be Barber who went on to play at UK and also won the sweet sixteen that season.

 

If i remember correctly, Lykins fouled out with about 5 to play and trailing. Lewis went on a run, had the ball at the end of regulation. Clay Applegate missed a shot in the lane to send them to the first regional final is school history.

 

Joe Hampton also won the district the following year and fell to Greenup County in overtime. A freshman who had a wonderful career at LC had about a fifteen foot jumper to win the game but rimmed out.

 

Them were two teams that were heavyly outmatched but put them in a position to advance even farther.

I bet Clark don't miss the two shots at the end of regulation and the first overtime many times. Two shots about ten foot that both rimmed out.
