Here's a list of the games being played in the tournament. It should be another good tournament this year.

That setup makes absolutely no sense...

It's a round robin tournament. There is no over all winner.

Then it's not a tournament ... it's just a bunch of teams playing some games and calling it a tournament.

Amen!

By the way, didn't this tournament used to be pool play, with three or four pools, four teams per pool?

It's not even round robin.

Two teams play three games:

Paintsville and Scott (West Virginia)

Three teams play two games:

North Stafford (Virginia), Sheldon Clark and Tates Creek

Four teams play one game:

Boyd County, Hazard, South Charleston (West Virginia) and Tolsia (West Virginia)

The actual name is the Paintsville Hoops Classic. I just put tournament in my post, but there's nothing that states that a tournament has to crown a champion.

tournament

A series of contests in which a number of contestants compete and the one that prevails through the final round or that finishes with the best record is declared the winner.

Why did you just post the one definition?

1. a trial of skill in some game, in which competitors play a series of contests: a chess tournament.
2. a meeting for contests in a variety of sports, as between teams of different nations.
3. History/Historical.
a. a contest or martial sport in which two opposing parties of mounted and armored combatants fought for a prize, with blunted weapons and in accordance with certain rules.
b. a meeting at an appointed time and place for the performance of knightly exercises and sports.

Bottom line, this thing in Paintsville used to be a tournament and now it isn't.

Second question: how are total games determined for basketball schedules? How many games can you play before you go over the limit? Does this thing at Paintsville count as many games as you play?

And like I stated it is called the Paintsville Hoops Classic. I'm the one who said it was a tournament by mistake.

I believe that is the main reason this is not as big as it used to be. Short answer, KHSAA changed the way games are counted this year and "each" game played, counts and not play 3 count as 1, play 4 count as 2....Teams and other tournaments, are doing 4-5 games anymore.

Combine that with Paintsville, playing in the 5th/3rd Bank the week they normally have it, Dec 27-30 and escalating costs, with reduced funding.

What do you know about the out-of-state teams? Are they solid?

I really have no idea. I just posted this for a friend who is in charge of getting this together.
