Football Question

Featured Replies

I know this is an odd thing to ask...but this was debated quite a bit yesterday at the tailgate party (where only the finest debates occur).

According to KHSAA rules, if a team currently decides to move up, can they move up one class? Example, from 1A to 2A.

Someone insisted that there is a new rule that, from now on, if any team wants to move up, they have to move up to 6A. This rule is intended to keep teams from moving up and upsetting the current balance of the teams.

Can someone settle this debate, cause it sure didnt get settled yesterday.

For this year teams could move up more than 1 class as Highlands was 3A enrollment-wise but moved to 5A in order to be in a district that had teams near it.

The thought is that the rule for 09 might be that unless you move up to 6A, you have to stay in the class you are either currently in or in the class you really should be in.

So, if you want to move up one class, you have to do it next season? Otherwise you have to go to 6A after that? How often to schools have the opportunity to move?

I don't believe team can move at all next year as schedules were set for 2 years (07 and 08). In 09 the next realignment comes. That's when teams can ask to be moved but remember you have to ask, and in 07 you had to have a reason such as there are no teams in your classification near you. Some teams were denied in 07 because it would have overloaded a district or left a district with less than 4 teams.

My opinion is that they should make everyone play in the class they are suppossed to and if you want ot move up go all the way to 6 A and nake it a super class. It is not fair to allow only a handful to move up and some be denied to move up.

This is true but if you look at the KHSAA board and who is in charge of it all it makes sense why some of the selections are made. I agree you should stay in your class or move all the way up. I think there are some football schools that need to all be in the same class anyway regardless of where they are located. Maybe they should be called independent schools and be able to play anyone. I would really like to see Highlands compete in 6A with Trinity and X. In 6A There are only a handful of teams that can compete year end and year out. I feel Highlands should be in 6A regardless of its enrollment because they can play with Trinity and X and Male and the Louisville schools every year and always will.

We will see but I think the alignment has hurt more than helped. Problem is I don't know how you fix it. We are a 5A school but with more 2 year boys than Bowling Green and their team seemed to have 30 more kids than ours (on the sidelines).

Problem is just because you have 550 boys on a 2 year average doesn't mean you have 550 boys to choose from for football. The schools that win year end and year out are football schools kids go there to play football(but also to get an education I might add). Our school kids go because they have to go to school somewhere. I haven't seen any of the boys at our school that wear the teddy bear purse back packs trying out for football.

Maybe they should classify the schools based on sports participation but that can be scewed as well. I know it sounds like a gripe but I just think the playing field is not level. I do know it doesn't matter what I say on here there are boys all over the state that are working hard to reach their dreams of playing on the red carpet and for some it will happen for some it won't and for a select few it will happen ever year they are in high school.

Congratulations to those teams who reached their dreams this year and for those who fell short keep plugging you will get there.

Sorry for some reason my posts are posting twice.

I have a slightly off thread but related question. What number determines the class divisions: number of students or number of boys? Also, what are the number cutoffs for each of the classes.

Number of boys for football.

Also there are more teams in 1A than say 2A because some of the teams in 1A elected to not compete in district play.

I'm not a big fan of allowing teams to move up but when you go to 6 classes with basically 4 or 5 teams in every district you almost have to allow it. Otherwise, teams could have to travel over 100 miles to every district game.

Go back to 4 classes or go to 4 classes and a super-class and teams would not have to move.

This would work as well but how do you determine who would go to the Super Class and who doesn't? We already have to travel almost 100 miles for a district game. We either play at Hoptown or Christian Co. (they play at the same place) every year. For the most part though most of our games are pretty close.

Why don't we do like the BCS and put whoever we want in the title games? We could put the teams with the biggest following regardless of record in one of the 6 bowl games so the state athletic association can get better Trophies and othere things for the winners.

I strongly agree with this but make it 5 classes. Make 6A only by choice. Stop the complaining about the the Big 2. If you don't want to run with the big dogs, stay on the porch but make it their choice.
