Big district win.. I would have to put these two teams 1 and 2 in the district. I would have to say Lee is only going to get better.

It was a 17 point lead with 5:00 minutes to go in the game. Estill relaxed and almost paid for it. Lee shot 22 free throws to Estill's 11 at Estill. Lee Co. is a scrappy team and competitive every year - Charles is a nice player and the rest complement him well. I look for both teams to improve with Estill having the most room for improvement. This is only the second full week for Estill's Football players and only second game with all of the players together.

Estill outscored Lee 24 -11 in the third qtr due to several made threes, ending the third qtr with Estill about 15 up.

Lee fought back in the fourth to within one point in the final two minutes but missed their last couple of shots and had to foul.

 

Lee outscored Estill in the first and fourth, Estill won the second and third with the third being decisive.

 

The free throw differential was due to Estill's reliance on outside shooting and little penetration. Estill made about 10 threes, Napier must have been about 6 for 10.

 

IMO Lee has the most room for improvement, as they return zero starters from last season. Estill has two or three starters back from last season. Estill seems to be all guard oriented.

 

It was a good game, not a blow out.

I think this is the weakest I have ever seen this district. But good thing that all 4 teams are weak this year, they all lost a lot last year. They all are playing hard and will make for some good district games, just don't know how well they will do when they go out of the district and play some of the other teams in the region.

Nobody said it was a blowout - All credit was given to LEE. Football is key factor for Estill as the the whole team has been practicing since November 14 and 3 of the top 7 players were footballers. LEE is operating at a much greater percent of maximum potential than Estill. That said Estill may never even reach a portion of that potential.

I'm not taking anything away from Estill either. These two teams are ranked 8th and 9th in the region. Lee's total varsity experience returning from last season is two players with about 3 varsity starts between them. This is a very inexperienced team with miles of room to improve.

I understand, but with no football Lee is in midseason form compared to Estill.

Also of note - Charles had 18 points against Estill at Lee last year and Pelphrey had 16 or 17 at Estill.

Estill is not playing very well right now, and Lee played above my expectations this early in the year.

Lee County is off to a sluggish start. I was actually expecting more out of them this season. But the season is young. It is going to take more than Charles and Pelphrey if Lee Co. is going to have a good season.

I would love to see freshman Kenton Roberts put on a little muscle over the course of his career and become that inside threat that Estill enjoyed with his cousin Clinton Dixon.

 

Charles was an impressive shooter at times but it seemed that he ran out of gas early on in the first half, and didnt really regain any momentum until Lee was on their exciting come back that fail a few buckets short.

 

Both teams have a lot to work on, but have the tools to do so. I look forward to seeing them play later on in the season.
