Russell 29-5 last year, lost everyone from last year's 8 man rotation except Ferguson.

All were students from other schools. Now the true colors will come out for Dodd. Tough to play with Russell kids and compete. I am sorry for Ferguson due to the fact that many of the players who began with him now are sitting in the stands.

Is this because the past transfers took their spots, or they are just not interested in playing now? If because of transfers taking their spots, then some surrounding schools should be having the same problem or will eventually have the same problems. Seems to have been a lot of transferring for most schools in the 16th for the past few years. Looks bad on us as 16th Region members, wish everyone would just take a stand and play for the perspective school system and quit jumping around. Support the community that got you there, win or lose.

I would still like to know how young Skaggs did?

Me, too!

This may be the lowest scoring out put in Russell history, along with the State Tournament a couple of years ago. But Dodd is a great coach, he will show them the way. Russell will be fine by the end of the season.

Wow, 3 players score for Russell and one of them garners 12 of the 21. I dont care who you are, Newport is not a world beater they better find some kids that can put it in the hole.

That's not true at all!!! They were not all from other schools. I'm not sure where you get your info from.

Love your avatar! It suits you.

Skaggs started and played almost the whole JV game. He played very well and I believe had 4 points. He played about the last 1:30 of the varsity game.

How did the super sophs do for Newport? I hear they have 3-4 that are very good and Darnel is tough as well in the paint.

About midway through the second quarter the Newport Sophs got things going and played well. Darnell played pretty well from the 2nd quarter on.

:laugh:Yeah, it's true that a few were transfers but not ALL of them like he stated above. That was my only point.

Last year there were a number of players on several teams who had formerly been at Rose Hill. VanHoose and Austin Blair at Russell, Alex Barker at Fairview, Matt Thomas at Ashland, Gillums at Greenup, Mayo, Jamal Williams, and Michael Taylor at Huntington High to name a few.

Can you imagine what a team that would have been had they all stayed at Rose Hill

Golf Rev good to hear from you again . You are correct those kids did at one time play for Rose Hill . But they also played for other schools before they went to Rose Hill. I wish we could have a 16th region basketball without people bringing up the transfers it happens at every school . We all need to just look in the mirror before we look at other schools.

True.

Transfers happen.

Some are legit... some are not...

but it is a fact of life in high school sports.

Best not to focus on the transfers - just appreciate the student athletes and support your favorite team(s)

Do Elliott Co and Russell play this year? They may want to go ahead and forfeit that game.

wow that would be ugly.
