5wide, you nailed the essence of this game. The two quick TD's (the second one on a nice pass by Elkins) was the backbreaker heading into halftime. Then the turnovers that Belfry converted into points in the 3rd quarter was the salt in the wound.

 

I think if these teams played another 10 times none of the games would be this lopsided.

 

And if Breathitt gets to come to CAM again next year, it would be in the 3rd round for the Region 4 Championship. I expect it will happen too as both these teams have a ton of talent returning.

 

I agree...sort of. As I said earlier, I'm not so much surprised by the 34 point margin...as the fact that the teams combined for 90 points.

 

If they played 10 times, I'd say Breathitt would be lucky if they won two of them. But, I agree...I think the two scores at the end of the half put Breathitt on the edge. It wasn't going to take a whole lot from Belfry in the 3rd to push them on over. I don't think Breathitt's team quit or laid down by any means...I just think it's one of those situations where you're playing a team that's better than you and you make a couple of mistakes to fall behind and things just snowball from there. Obviously, you're not going to get the same inspired effort when things are going way wrong and you're down 28 points. It's just hard to ever get the momentum back or ever really get back into the game. It happens.

 

I feel for the Breathitt players, particularly the seniors, but they have nothing to be ashamed of. I know to lose the way they did probably stings...a lot, but they had a great season. Friday was just one of those games...for about 5 minutes of game time, whatever could go wrong did and it was too much for Breathitt to overcome against a great opponent.

 

In 1994, Breathitt County travelled to Leslie County with the district title on the line and lost 53-6...trailing 46-0 at the half. They went undefeated and won state the next year. Breathitt has lost big before. Hopefully, they'll learn from the experience and it will inspire the underclassmen to work twice as hard in the off-season. From what I can see, the Bobcats have the talent in place...now they just have to work hard, mature and put the pieces together.

BTW, I tried to watch the Dotson kid a little on defense. He looked good, as you all said. He laid a nice hit on Jade Haddix in the third quarter.

Dotson is a blast to watch and he will be one of the best LB in KY next year. It was nice to see him have such a break out game on offense.

 

Phillip Hickman, #8, had another good game from the DT spot too. Before this game he was leading the team in tackles with 96 and 15 sacks. :eek: He is a disruptive force from that spot along with Coleman #3, and Webb #51.

 

I hope your trip to Belfry and CAM stadium was positive, 5W (aside from the outcome). We've had some heated games between us in the past, and I just hope you and all Breathitt fans were treated well and with respect.

I can't say nothing that hasn't been covered in this banter, thank you for your class 5wide and I think you hit the nail on the head... it would be nice to wlecome you all back next year as both teams are absolutely loaded with young talent.
