Incredible football game!!! The Purples survive to fight again next week. The John Hatdin Bulldogs have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about! They have had a marvelous season, and they left it all on the field...12-1 is a great season!! My personal congratulations to the Bulldogs and their staff for a marvelous game!

 

In the first qtr, junior RB Tevin Barksdale capped an opening 57 yd drive with a 14 yd pass reception from senior QB Trent Steelman with 8:07 left in the qtr. "Automatic Max" Oldham boots the PAT, and BGHS takes a 7-0 lead. Shortly afterward, Denham runs one in for John Hardin, the PAT is good, and the score is tied at 7-all to end the first qtr.

 

The second qtr was wild. Sophomore RB Lavance Anderson scores on a 4 yd run for the Purples with 8:30 left in the half. Automatic Max was good again, and BGHS held a 14-7 lead. But not for long...the ensuing kickoff was returned 89 yards for a score! The PAT was good, and the score was tied at 14-all. Denham, at the 5:13 mark, scored on a 52 yd pass play for the Bulldogs. The PAT was good, and John Hardin led 21-14. With 2:48 left in the half, Steelman scored on a QB draw play from 32 yards out. Automatic Max hammered the PAT home again, and the game was tied again! Kyle Thomas tried a field goal from 30 yards out with 7 seconds left, but the Bulldogs' attempt failed, and the score was knotted up at 21-all at the half!

 

The third qtr saw no scoring, but there was plenty of action! It ended with the Bulldogs making a first down at the BGHS one yd line!

 

Incredibly, the Purples mounted a great goal line stand and got the ball back about the half yard line!! However, Steelman was trapped in the end zone for a safety, and John Hardin forged a 23-21 lead with just under 10 minutes left! The Bulldogs had other opportunities, but could do nothing with the ball. In the final scoring drive, senior TE Ryan Wallace had a huge fourth down reception to keep the drive alive. Then Barksdale caught a 21 yd scoring strike from Steelman to put the Purples in the lead for good with 2 minutes left in the game. The Purples went for two, but the pass failed, and BGHS had the slim 27-23 lead that they made hold up. Wallace also got the sack on fourth down to end John Hardin's chances of continuing their season!

 

What a game!! The Purples will take on the Owensboro/Oldham County winner next week!:thumb:

Yep, we're twistin' away in Bowling Green tonight!:dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpaThe guys couldn't have given Mrs PH a better birthday present tonight! This game showed me that the guys can come from behind when the chips were down and plays had to be made. Ryan Wallace was definitely in charge late in the game!! Automatic Max is 82 of 83 on PATs on the season now! Tonight set a new season scoring record at BGHS...648 points (the old record was 632 set in 2005 in 15 games).

 

This game had a little bit of everything tonight! Fumbles, interceptions, a kickoff run back for a score, tough goal line stands, a safety, lots of yards total offense, a 2pt conversion attempted!

 

We won't be twistin' for too long...the Dungeon awaits!!:scared:Owensboro has been playing at Rash Stadium since the mid 1920s, and more often than not, it is indeed a torture chamber for unfortunate opponents of the great Red Devil teams over the years! Owensboro just may have the best defensive team the guys will face for 2007, and I think that this game may be most notable for its absence of points scored!

PurpleHaze hope to see you guys next Friday night. We will be tailgating by the main gate and hope to meet up. RADIO GUY will be in the pressbox and on the radio and this game will have the makings of another one of those great BG OHS grinders played with a ton of emotion :fight: and the fans will be ready for the big showdown on both sides. By the way automatic max is 82 of 83 WOW! that is impressive. We do not put up many points and have gone for 2 several times but my freshman kicking son is 34 of 35 on the season and maybe when MAX graduates he can transfer the automatic name to the OHS kid. My son also had a cracked shin bone and was out for a little bit or he would have a few more points as well. He was named 2nd team all area kicker this year behind Muhlenburg South's JR kicker that had 18 total points on the year, but that is OK gives him a little motivation for next year for sure. Congrats Bowling Green, if you were at the game, you must have a sense that John Hardin gave the game away with turnovers.

 

Bowling Green certainly made plays when they had to with the big goal line stand, the 4th down pass to keep the drive alive, and finally the touchdown pass to go ahead. Those plays are examples of a great ball club and a bunch of kids who expect to win. Great program you have.

This was a great game played by two wonderful teams. It is games like this that you hate to have to see someone walk off the field for the last time of the season. There were a few heart stopping times in the game. PH and I never gave up on our team. We knew they had it in them to win....and win they did. We are both so proud of the boys!!! Thank you Purples for the great birthday gift!!!!!

This is refreshing. Two fans with vested interests in their teams from programs who have been blood rivals from way back in the old WKC wars can get on here and wish the best for the winner whomever it may be. On another thread, several people have their team of choice already penciled in as the 5A Champs. They refer to all the rest of us as "whoever". Good thing that games are not played on paper, huh? Actually, some of their fans are quite classy and are standing out because of their silence. The rest of them could learn a thing or two from our example! Best of luck to the Red Devils too!:thumb:

With all due respect, I think you are being a little hard on that poster. The thread asked people to opine as to whom they thought was going to win 5A. The poster enthusiastically stated Highlands. While I didn't post in that thread, I always, every year think Highlands is going to win state. We raise our kids in town to think that if they work their tails off they will win state every year, so hopefully you can forgive that Highlands poster's enthusiasm which I'm sure you consider arrogance. One person's enthusiasm is another person's arrogance. And thinking that we are going to win state does not mean for a second that we are being disrespectful to our opponents or that our opponents are just a bunch of "whoevers". I fully expect Lincoln to give us a great game this Friday as they are very, very talented, but I dang sure expect to win. And I'm sure that whomever wins your match up with Oboro will give us an even tougher contest at State. But I will go into that game expecting that we will win also. We go into every game expecting to win. We are often disappointed, but no less optimistic or enthused about the next year. Our achievements are high because our expectations are even higher.
