For one you all are thinking bout the old rule. Here is a situation. Ball on the defenses 35 yard line. Ofense take a sweep and runs all the way down to the opponents 3 yard line. when he gets up he throws the ball 20 feet in the air. a flag is thrown for unsportsmanlike. Now the old rule you would set the chains and then mark off the penalty, which would make it a 1 and goal from the 18 yard line. The new rule whcih actually came out the year 2005 is, since the foul occured during the dead ball period, the chains are not set. you mark off the penalty to the 18 yard line and it is now 1 and 10 from the 18. the NFHS has been trying to get rid of having 1st and 15 and ect plays to get away from people getting comfused.

Now with the fan, if the fan is in the coaching box raising cane then the fan is the coaches priority and the penalty can be thrown. IN MY OPPINION THE REFS GOT THIS 100% CORRECT. GOOD JOB GUYS AND CONGRATS TO GCHS:thumb:

I also heard this rule today. I did not know that the worse case scenario was still First and 10, no matter how many yards you are backed up.

Still dont know how they can call a Personal Foul against one of GC's fans because they were near the Endzone when they were only a Fan. I can see them ejecting them from the Field, but not a penalty against GC.

Nevertheless....Exciting game, but a tough loss for the Lions..Now on to Basketball and Good Luck to the Muskies.

Correct the was in the endzone and the actual comment to the official was that the plane was broken, with that and only that the flag was thrown. How it was against GC is beyond me as it was a fan and who is to say where the fan is from (Ashland, East Carter, etc.). IMO the ref's could have talked this over, waved off the penalty and given GC the ball at the 6" line with the first down. None the less, I am glad GC won as they made the 3 hour drive worth it.

Fan thrown out no penatly against the team according to a ref who is calling one of the state final games.

The "fan" was very closely associated with the Greenup County team.

Still a fan and not a player or coach (ie, somebody on the team).

"Very closely accociated" or not, the person is still a fan and the ref was wrong
