Yeah, it may have happened once, in an extremely unlikely sequence of events, at a school that has taken on a (fair or not) mythological aura. But the scenario in "The Program" goes on every day at football factories across America. Which one's more real?

 

Both movies emulate the good and bad side of sports, much like comparing apples to oranges. But to answer you question (since historical records prove to be useful) Rudy is more real. Sure college football teams everyday across the nation secretly operate in illegal ways, but how many times have you heard the same old "kid walks on at Notre Dame and gets to play, even though every facet of his life tries to prevent him from doing so" story?

 

Today that would be just the same as my little brother suddenly having the notion to walk on at WV and actually getting to play. Give me a break.

Very close call but when in doubt go with a classic, RUDY.

Well put. "The Program" is important if for no other reason than its insight into the ugly side of college FB. "Rudy" is just sentimental schlock.

The Program is a far better movie than Rudy, IMO.

I've always heard that Rudi is grossly exaggerated....

 

 

Which is why he is still getting the carries that should go to Watson.

While Rudy was a great movie and even better story, it's Notre Dame football...

I had a family member who attended Flaget and went onto Notre Dame and All American status in the 60's. He always said there were some "artistic Liberties" taken especially with the part about the players giving up there jerseys so rudy could play. There were other parts too, but that is the one that sticks out in my mind.
