It's for "THE Ohio State University," as though there is some other school out there billing itself as Ohio State, so there was a need to distinguish it. Just wait, before long we'll see game threads that look like this: "TUOK/TUOL Updates." And they'll probably be empty, because people won't know what the heck the acronym means.
