I've always felt you should go by what they finished as in terms of ranking. Colorado, Iowa, MSU and Wisconsin all ended up out of the poll by the end. So it seems much of their ranking was more reputation than actual performance.

So then is it where they were when you beat them or where they were when it was over? Did Nebraska get credit for beating the #2 team in the nation or the #18 team?
