November 1, 200718 yr I have a big problem with the schools passing out birth control. We're back to parental responsibility again. Over the years, I saw a tremendous number of young women come down with the nine-month flu" --- even among star varsity athletes who theoretically should have known better. So much for "parental responsibility." Anybody who is having sex should be allowed to take full and total responsibility for his or her reproductive health, including contraception. And without parental consent for minors, if necessary --- they aren't a part to it. I have noticed that far too often parents' beliefs preclude accepting the reality of the world they live in. LBBC, I'm not sure why you think that this concept is "nuts." It would dramatically lower teenage pregnancy rates. This is not a bad thing. Teenage parenthood is.

So, it is the school's responsibility to determine who needs birth control and to dispense it??????????????:confused: And 67% of the people felt it should be the school's job. 2 out of 3 felt this was a good idea. Parent's job not mine or the school's. I would really find a study about whether people think it is a good idea for schools to teach abstinence. I would bet that the number is belwo 67% that think this is a good idea. Let's not teach them to be responsible, rather give them something that only MIGHT prevent it.

That mentality cracks me up. 14-year olds are not going to do homework either, guess we should just quit assigning it. Posters on here are going to post things they shouldn't, should guru get rid of all the standards and rules. You know people are going to speed, so let's do away with speeding limits. You know people are going to do drugs, so let's just make all drugs legal. It is not a good argument that just because some are going to not do what is right, we should just make it easier and ok for them.

I agree with you in that teenagers SHOULD NOT engage in sex, but in reality they do.

I agree with you in that teenagers SHOULD NOT engage in sex, but in reality they do. And no one should engage in illegal drug use but they do. So as HHSDad asked, should we be providing clean needles for them? Cause in reality, they are shooting up with dirty needles and we could prevent disease transmission by providing them with clean needles. If a parent wants to put them on birth control that is one thing, but for a school to dispense it......totally different thing.

Teaching kids to use protection IF they engage in sex is teaching them lessons that they should utilize as adults and as teens if they make that choice to do so. You can't compare it to illegal activities.

You can't compare it to illegal activities. Kids having sex under the age of 16 is illegal in this state, I do believe.
