I'm looking forward to this game. Not a fan of either team. I'm going to watch my wife's cousin play. He is a senior and se haven't seen him play this year.

I was shocked when I saw Mayfield's record. It's not awful, but just not up to Mayfield standards.

We are definitely having a strange season, I can't remember but from my memory the worst season Mayfield has had as far as my memory goes is 6-4, somebody correct me if I am wrong.

I remember them being 5-5 just a few yrs ago with losses to Marshall, Graves, Tilghman, Hop'town and Eville North...They still made it the semis that year and got beat by Danville, so the overall ended up 8-6, but, was still 5-5 in the reg season..

I also remember them being 5-5 in 73 or 74...they were 4-5 going into the last game with PT and were big underdogs, but, pulled the upset to end up at .500...I can recall them saying then that if they had a losing record, it would have been the 1st year in like 30 yrs since they had a losing record and that was in the early 70s, so, I dont think they've actually been worse than .500 since like the 40s or 50s....

This game is certainly an intriguing matchup and a great way to end the regular season.

 

As a Caldwell fan, I certainly hope Mayfield continues to struggle for at least one more week. However, I think Mayfield's speed on defense will give Caldwell's offense some problems.

 

Meanwhile, I expect Mayfield to try to pound the ball right at Caldwell's defense. Caldwell has played better against the run each week this season, so this will be a huge test to see if the team has gotten better or the competition has gotten worse (probably a little of both). Caldwell is still iffy against the pass, but I don't expect Mayfield to put the ball in the air a lot.

 

I still look for Mayfield to make a long postseason run. For Caldwell, a win, or even a strong showing, might indicate the Tigers could be playing another 3-4 weeks.

It will be interesting to see how Mayfield comes out this week as the Cards have gone more "live" action this week in practice and the coaches say that they have more aggression now than they have in the past three weeks. Now whether that translates to the field is another question. When the Cards play with heart and passion they win...when they don't...well we have seen it the last three weeks. Would not be surprised to see the Cards play more of a smash-mouth brand of football tonight against Caldwell County...especially with the way that the Tigers can spread you out on offense to try and shorten the game with the run.

 

Hopefully both teams come out with their "A" Game as that should make for a great game and a good way to end the season and start the postseason next week.

The poll is about as even as it can get. I'm tempted to vote for Caldwell just to make the poll a tie; but I really don't know enough about the teams from Western KY to add anything to the discussion.
