From what I was told -- if the Home Team's band is playing while the Visiting Team is on offense -- the result can be a penalty for the Home Team. I do know that the official warned the Dayton coach and a coach from Dayton did go to the band director and told him.

Im pretty sure its not it the rule book. Therefore the refs were helpless and i think the Dayton fans standed up and started humming one of Daytons fight songs. Nothing you can do about that.

You're right, there is no rule about it anywhere. It's just funny that people don't complain about petty things like the band unless the team's doing well.

Exactly Daytons band has been playing while the opposing team has the ball for years and nobody cared, now Dayton is doing well and people start to pick at little pointless things.

The ref actually stopped the game several times to wait until the band finished the song. The band director was so mad that they couldn't play they would play between plays get real quite, but keep playing during the play, and then get loud again after the play was over. The ref stopped several times and looked up at the band as they were stopping. It was pathetic. It is funny how petty things come out when a team is doing good.

It's pretty rare for a Referee to resort to even acknowledging a band director's existence; I suspect there's more to the story than is being told here.

First lets get something straight. I personally don't care if the bands plays the entire game. I respect Dayton's good season. They've had an award winning band for quite some time. I was only advising information that an official had told me about.

Not just this game, and I didn't notice any fans getting mad over the band playing. But this all really started the Lynn Camp game where two fans came over to the band director and began yelling at him for playing, ever since then it's like the band isn't aloud to play. I thought it was pathetic the ref holding the game up for the band to stop, but the no one in the stands really seemed to mind. Other than that I thought the refs called a fair game, and the game was a good and well played game for both teams.
