I'm really surprised by this...OC played a decent schedule but nothing like NCC's.Stat tells us your thoughts on the match.:eek:

I'll get to that once this match with South Laurel and Henry Clay goes final...right now HC leads 1 game to none.

Not every place "up north" starts at age 6. Many schools don't have programs until middle school but they still don't have players that serve underhand. I think a lot of that also has to do with the quality of coaches. There are a lot of very talented, decidated coaches up here.

 

 

I agree completely. At the middle school where I used to teach, the kids first started playing volleyball as sixth graders. No underhand serving was allowed at any time by any player, even if at that age they were not physically strong enough to serve overhanded. At first, you may have to suffer through a lot of missed serves, but it will eventually pay off.

 

In my opinion, there's no point in developing bad habits. Middle school leagues are designed to help develop fundamentals. Underhand serving has no place in competitive volleyball. Therefore, proper overhand serving skills need to be taught and enforced from day one. Coaches that have high expectations for their kids in middle school are doing their part in helping to athletes that will be more competitive at the high school level and beyond.

I really tired right now and I need to be back up to the gym by 5:30 in order to get everything I need done before everyone starts getting there (sometimes I really hate doing homework....grrrrr...lol)

Not true! South Laurel had Henry Clay beat and couldn't close the deal. They are what 5 miles from Corbin. Certainly the terrible officiating helped South Laurel. The refs have seemed to decide that they will call pretty much nothing. BUT let me add that I think the 12th region (at least the top 3 or 4 teams) have caught up with everyone except Louisville.

I am not stat but here goes. NCC came out looking great, like they were going to make it a quick 2 . OC looked like they barely belonged there. NCC's # 9 and #13 and the big girl(maybe #25 not sure) looked great and then they started having some hitting errors. I have seen OC play at least 3 times this year and they hit the ball tonight like I have not seen before. They played some "small ball" (as the softball people would say) and that opened up the boom:fight: and then NCC started to panic. NCC made several errors in the end that seemed pressure related. The Henry Clay/Owensboro Catholic game should be a great one!!

There are so many people here that they've had to open up the endzone seating.

I feel the atmosphere in Frankfort is MUCH NICER. Nothing against NKU, but I have been in several high school gyms that are nicer. I think I liked it better when it was at Ryle.

I agree Ncc played scared after the second game loss. Oh well they only lose one player off the team and their starting libero will be back after severly injuring her knee midway through the season . The young lady that played libero after the injury did a great job filling in and there will be a fight to fill that position next year. Great season Lady Breds .

I have to disagree about the officating. There were several questionable calls against SL. We are all very proud of the girls.There are not many teams that have a Perfect regular season (38-0). SL held their own against a UL signee and a member of the Jr national team. I think your a little upset that PC didn't even make it to the region.

I didn't mean anything against South. What part of my statement sounded like I was dogging south. Sorry if I offended you. I thought South played a great game. I was attempting to stand up for South and their area. Heck I was cheering for them. I get tired of hearing people slam the area. I agree there were a couple of calls that were questionable against South. The biggest being the lift called in the 3rd game. I still feel South gained more from the refs than did Henry Clay. You should be very proud of the girls. I am very proud of them. As for being upset over a loss, I don't formulate my V-ball opinions based on a PC win or loss. Losing is part of the game..Unless your Assumption... and they have even lost a couple this year!

I thought if NC had won they would be playing NDA. I now see that NDA is playing E-Town. How do the brackets work in v-ball?

The semifinals are about to get underway with the expected match-up of Assumption versus Mercy. The crowds from both schools are starting to pick up after the Owensboro Catholic fans are filing out.

 

The OCHS/HCHS was really exciting. I thought Henry Clay was dead in the second game when they got down big but they held it together to even the match at one game all and then the wheels fell off for OCath.

 

If anyone is capable of making it out here for these semifinals, please do so. You won't be disappointed in these matches.

Watching Assumption and Mercy play was the best $6 I've spent in a while. The James girl has unreal hops and her partner #20 can hammer it as well. Great, great atmosphere.
