Is it just me or does Thompson look disinterested?

It's almost like he's campaigning under duress. I don't think he's really interested in being President. I no longer think I'll be voting for him in the primary.

Again, if a Huckabee gets the nod, than the conservatives you worry about with McCain as VP, won't care. McCain as VP would be totally aimed at the Independents/Democrats and to entice them to come to that camp.

 

Also, McCain and his DC experience goes to address the issue of lack of DC and foreign policy experience of Huckabee.

 

I think the conservatives would be upset with Huckabee if he had Rudy as his VP.

If McCain is on the ticket, he will not help pull in any independent or Democratic votes. The media, which has always treated McCain with more respect than he ever earned, will take off the gloves if Hillary gets the Democratic nomination. We will be reminded early and often of McCain's age, the fact that he is the lone member of the Keating Five remaining in the Senate, his role in the disastrous McCain-Feingold campaing finance reform, etc.

 

I would also expect the media to draw comparisons between Vice President Cheney and McCain (fiery temper, does he have demeanor to play second fiddle, would he be pulling the strings for a more easy going Huckabee, etc.)

So the VP choice would have to come from outside of the Rep field? Cause I don't see anyone that enhances the Huckabee ticket. For the reasons why they are not viable Rep Presidential candidates.

Why not? Not everybody qualified to be vice president is running for president. Maybe a midwestern or northern Republican governor or former Maryland Lt. Governor, Michael Steele. The GOP needs a good stump speaker who will not be an easy smear target. The media will be anxious to show moral equivalency between Hillary and any Republican running against her, including the VP pick.

I don't think a Michael Steele would be necessarily good as his weaknesses would probably be Huckabee's weaknesses. Nothing against him.

 

I would assume that he needs someone that can offset his Foreign Relations lack of experience WITHOUT being tied to Bush and having that drag him down.

I don't think I could vote for Guliani even if Kucinich or Hillary was on the other ticket. I'd have to make a protest vote to a third party.

Yes, for me it would be like voting for a too far left leaning Dem, especially on gun control issues. Since guns are my livelihood, no way could I vote for for someone like Giuliani. We also disagree on the abortion issue. I would do as HHSDad said he would, cast a protest vote to a third party.
