I don't think the players who will move up from the JV ranks are as good as the players from the Simon Kenton JV team that are expected to play big roles on the varsity level. I would have SK as a top five team before Dixie.

 

I disagree. Boone's JV players moving up are right there with SK's. Most of Boone's JV players moving up are sophs. I believe SK had more junior JV players last year. SK and Boone JV split their games last year, and both were very competitive. The summer varsity game this summer was also competitive.

Boone is the real deal. With McFarland returning as the leader they look to be very tough. Mikey Gabbard-the sophomore point guard is very good. very quick with the ball.

I agree, but hopefully McFarland won't try to do too much by himself because Boone should be well balanced in scoring. They won't need him to lead them in scoring. Gabbard is a great ball handler and passer. Flannery is a great scorer and perhaps the best three point shooter in NKY. If Earls works hard, he will be a dominant inside presence and one of the best big men in NKY. Popp is another outstanding PG/SG and shooter/scorer. IMO, he and Gabbard are easily the best guards in NKY in the 2010 class and among the top 10 in all classes in NKY. They are definitely one of the better guard combinations in NKY when they are in the game together.

 

There are also a couple of other good hard-working juniors in Spaulding and Andrew Brown. Sam Brown who is a senior will also be a scrapper. Senior Krohman will be another good outside shooter. Bogle will be a good defender. Cotton is an athletic soph who may be able to help rebound and block shots. He needs to keep improving his shooting, ball handling, and position defense. There are some other sophs coming up who may be scoring contributors in future years.

 

Boone will be young this year, but should be fun to watch.

This is why I chose Dixie as #4. Highlands doesnt have a proven big man so they dont match up with Dixie very well so in a head to head that one would probably go to Dixie. I may be wrong.

 

I dont know much about SK excpt that they have Layne coming back and he is a very scrappy kid who can fill it up inside of 10 feet.

 

Boone is going to be the sleeper this year. They may be a year away but those Sophs could step up and turn them into contenders.

I saw them play Highlands last year and followed their season on BGP. I dont remember Layne shooting anything from outside 14 feet in that game nor do I remember any mentioning of him being a great outside shooter. I do remember him slashing in the lane and playing athletically when he wasnt melting down. In fact he and the PG were sitting most of that game.

 

I know SK lost their two top players from last year's squad. Fill us in Hopper on who is going to step up outside of Layne.

I am not trying to be the Dick Vitale of SK basketball. 80% of why I am on this site is to learn about other teams and programs. Not to take anything away from the Birds who scrapped there butts off that night but SK's starters were flat out horrible. I got a kick out of that small curly-headed young man from HHS. He was everywhere all night,took Hester off his game, and was a factor in the outcome of the game. What was his name ? Is he still there?

Ricardo from Holmes, is 6'4 and is going to be a heck of a player this year. Tranfer papers were 20 days delayed by Taft but should be eligible by start of the season. My contact said he has put on 10lbs since the start of summer and he said he will be as good as Rice was this year. I also heard Bass(6'8) from HC wasn't going to play this year, that will hurt there inside.

Three, Hester, Hurd, and Elbert. I think Elbert hurts them the most, they have no one that can fill his shoes defensivly or atheltically of the wing.

Not really, he is a very under-developed player, the only thing he would do is take up space on the floor. With that said, You don't replace 6'8.

It was Teddy Conley and he was a pesky bug in Hesters underwear. He made life miserable for him that night. Teddy was all heart and actually earned some quality PT down the stretch and into the 9th region tourney but he was a senior.

wow, this may put Holmes over the edge. I know CCH is loaded but if Holmes can get conistent PG play and a 3pt shooter, their inside game might be the best in the 9th region with this addition.
