This game has a lot of important aspects you can't see in the stats and gametapes:

PIKEVILLE

- This is a prime opportunity to evaluate how far they need to go to compete with Beechwood, they get blown out by Pburg and it really hurts their psyche. They beat Pburg without Honaker and suddenly they make some heads turn.

- At the time they happened, Pikeville's victories over Holy Cross and Ashland looked really impressive, now not so much. After the Belfry debacle, the Panthers all of a sudden went from a team who could beat the quality teams on their schedule, to a team searching for a big win. Beating a legit Top 10 2A team would be that win.

-Maybe I am in the minority, and I wish all the best for Tim Honaker as he recovers from the concussion, but maybe playing without him at QB won't be such a bad thing. Honaker has had a tendacy of putting the ball on the ground and has kept the ball on the read series way too many times for a QB, Branham has a nice arm and now Pikeville's focal point on offense can go back to Harmon and seldom used Ted Honaker.

PBURG

- Just like Pikeville, the Blackcats have played really good teams but have yet to earn that quality "W" yet to justify how good their team was.

-Last week was a big ego boost to the Blackcats in that they proved they could play with Beechwood, but to put it in perspective they played a banged up Beechwood team in a true trap game, and when the chance to pull the upset appeared, it quickly became a 14 point outburst that buried the Blackcats For as easily as Pburg could be fired up about the performance, that seed of doubt from losing two games in the 4th Quarter (Beechwood and Breathitt) could be planted.

At season's start Derrossett would be the first to tell you that his lineplay was his biggest worry, well the weakness of Pikeville is definately their line, so if Pburg can't overpower Pikeville and allow their skill players to make plays, this game could be very interesting

EKU... (very well written post, btw)

Ego boost ? No, that's not exactly it. Rather, it served as confirmation this team is in the ballpark regarding its play in its forthcoming attempt to make noise in the playoffs (especially in a potential NewCath game down the road).

Prestonsburg was also playing banged up Saturday. Prestonsburg's two leading receivers (and starting CB's on D) were out and starting fullback Setzer (#5) was hobbled and played offense only.
