Two of the largest high schools in the state of Kentucky played last Friday night and this is the first mention of the game on BlueGrassPreps.

 

To me this is sad and speaks volumes of why high school football is what it is in Lexington........extremely lacking.

I think you are correct. Henry Clay has a nice program but no one seems to really care. The rest of the Lexington publics have even less following. Its kinda bizarre IMO.

You are right about this. But, if you look at the other threads coming out of Louisville, there are only two teams that matter. Henry Clay is an awesome team and deserves recognition for its outstanding season. They are a ligitimate contender, but the rest of the state (and seemingly Central Lexington) is wearing blinders.

Very true. Dunbar got blasted. Henry Clay's JV scored twice. Things are really that bad. By the way, they now run option off of fullback trap and dive.

I'm sorry but this comment is wrong. Dunbar and Tates Creek have much better crowds than Henry Clay in every sport. I've lived and died Lexington sports for the last 20 years, and Henry Clay has always had the smallest following fan wise. Lafayette's crowds are starting to grow in football too (not including band parents).

I think this game just proves what I said earlier about something being wrong at PLD, some like to put their hands in the sand, but all is not right at Dunbar, and its been that way ever since Meighan left. It has been a revolving door of coaches and no program will be successful like that. Since I played at TC when we were fairly successful 4 straight regional championships and 1 state title game appearance, I look and see how far TC has fallen it rests squarley on the inability to adapt to a modern game (i.e. passing). The nature of the beast that is 6A dictates you cannot win year in year out exclusively running the ball. What worked at East Jessamine doesn't work at PLD, that must be understood and successfully adapted if success is to be had.

"not including band parents" thats why after the band plays the fans begin to file out. I have been to many Henry Clay games over the past few years and Henry Clay has a good support from its fans and has just as good crowds as anyone in lexington.(not including band parents)

One thing that hurts the Henry Clay crowd compared with other Lexington high schools is that their are no band friends and family at the game because Henry Clay's band virtually never plays at a football game.

 

I have never in my life seen an musical organization so disconnected from athletics at a high school. What other bands in the country don't perform at halftime of their school's football games? Schools officials should require that they perform, in my opinion.

Trust me, the coaching staff at Trinity is not about to overlook a program as good as Henry Clay's. They were easily the 3rd best team in 4A last season and considering who 1 and 2 were that is high praise.

 

Henry Clay has some serious potential to make noise this year. I am just hoping the Rocks are ready when the time comes. :thumb:

The bolded part was painfully shown last season in Trinity-Ryle(41-7) and Male-St.X (33-7). Henry Clay has really begun to make serious strides in their program. If they don't compete for a title this season, they will soon.

Its pretty sad that a program like PLD has come to this...

True. The biggest school and argubly the best facilities in the state.

 

I don't know what is going on internally with that program, but something is not right.

Dunbar really needs to take a look at a different offensive system than the one they have in place right now. They have speed and talent, but their style of play keeps alot of it from being used. Bright Horizon, you said what I've been saying since last year. The Offense that worked at East in the weak district they were in will not work that well in Lexington.

Thats the part where coaching comes in. No kid comes out of middle school, especially in Fayette Co. ready to be a Varsity level passer. They have a pretty good QB coach on staff. It's all about what they are willing to do. Leaving the nest a little bit. The tools are in place, they just has to use them right.
