They were running the clock, I too thought it was the second half, but the Fulton Countians were running it as much as possible.

Geez, what a spanking. Cards keep marching. I remember the days when Fulton Co. had a couple of great teams with Mancel Elam trampling people at fullback. Not much happening down in the big toe these days. Good job Cards! Maybe we can tell the Beechies we can't mail them the trophy just yet . . .

 

LOL...I don't think that the CARDS are ready to hand over anything to anybody just yet...epsecially if we can take care of business with Fulton City in two weeks...then someone is gonna have to come to our house and take it away from us. And in November...that is a hard thing to do!!!

Rest assured that Calloway will come in ready to play this week. If the Cards are overlooking them, that would be a big mistake..I know the big district game with Fulton City is in the back of there minds, but, this Laker team has played Trigg Co, Marshall Co and Lone Oak very close this year and with a few breaks, could have won all those games. Those aren't too bad a teams to be competing with, so, lets hope they keep that focus on 1 game at a time...

 

I do agree, these Cards seem to have a little mojo and swagger going for them this year. They aren't very big, but, very quick and have alot of weapons at there disposal. They also seem to be prepared well, week in and week out, so, they certainly will be a solid contender come playoff time...

The CARDS will not overlook Calloway County...the one thing this Mayfield team does very well is keep focuses on the task at hand each week. Mayfield is very well aware of who Calloway has played and how they have faired against those opponents. Plus this CARDS team has too much pride in how they play and know that they can be a special team, but to do that they have to play one game at a time.

All of the positive yards that Fulton County had were against the JV and freshman group in the second half as the starters rested...Mayfield's starters held the Fulton County starters to (-9) total yards in the first half...while Mayfield racked up over 360 yards in their first half.

I have no idea why people voted this the game of the week on WPSD.

The Pilots beat Mayfield, who won the 2A state title that year, on opening night and later had three players (Elam, Jerome Warren and Kirk Barnett) later start on some good teams at Murray State. People sometimes forget that the best football player of the bunch, Joey Bumpous, died of a heart defect during the winter of his junior year.

 

The sad part is that Elam appeared to have the program headed in the right direction two years ago, then left after the school system cut his salary.

I remember that game with Fulton Co and Mayfield. It was Coach Leahys debut season and debut game.. There was alot of bickering going on after that game. The next week Mayfield barely beat a decent Webster team and the week following lost the 1st ever game against County rival, Graves Co. If i'm not mistaken, PT beat them the following week and the Cards started out 1-3 and alot more bickering went on. Coach redeemed himself though and went on to win the next 11 games and bring the Cards another 2a state championship...

Well, I am finally back from a camping trip I took this week. My boy came out of that game with at least 25 mosquito bites on him. I was told by someone at the game that the fulton folks sprayed sugar-water up and down the sideline before the game. It seems pretty believable when you saw how many mosquitoes where at the game.
