With Coach Napier contemplating retirement after this year and moving to the beach, who do you think will be his successor after one more run at the state tourney? Tough shoes to fill. Some possible choices: 1)Assistant Coach Kevin Whitman 2)Assistant Coach Misty McAlarnis 3)Assistant Coach Dena Smith 4)Viper Elementary Coach Vernell 5)A.B Combs Elementary Coach Dougie Campbell.

These are all some top choices from around the county, but will they hire within or will the Board want to open it up to someone outside of the county? All of these coaches have put in a lot of time with this program and all deserve it. I would hate to see them give it to someone out of the county. I guess time will tell.

Misty and Dena have a basketball background in High school and college so both of them have potential. I think Whitman may be close to retirement like Randy. Dougie has never coached anything but boys basketball at AB Combs and does not teach. Vernell, now thats funny Master of the Hardwood. :lol:

I'd like to see them give Misty a shot. I think she has tudored well in recent years.

Doesn't always go to the people that works the hardest for their program and has put in the time like it should! Never know what is going to happen in Perry County.

Large shoes to fill. Randy has a state championship and over 600 wins. You get a good program and good feeder system. But you are expected to go to the state every year. Randy has set the bar high.

The bar is high. I think that they will go with a candidate from outside the county. I think that they will hand it over to another coach that already has head coaching experience. This is a good position to have in Eastern KY. They have a lot of tradition at the PCC. I just don't think that they will hand it over to someone with no head coaching experience. Nothing against the candidates that you all have named, I just think that experience is a key.

How many Regional and District Titles did Coach Napier win while at MC Napier and how many years did he coach at MC Napier before MCN and DCHS combined. I know he won the region and the state title back in 94.

All this is speculation. Why would he quit for? He probably makes plenty money. Does he even teach a class? He has it made in the shade and the guy still looks increditibly young for his age. I think he has about 10 more good years left in him. He'd have to be absolutely crazy to stop coaching at Perry Central. The only person with a better job in the county than Coach Napier would be Coach Hatcher.

I've been hearing for at least two years that he would be leaving PCC and taking over at another Kentucky school (still in the mountains, but much closer to I-75).

If he quits at PCC, he won't coach anymore here in kentucky. He has a house at the beach in S.C. that he will move to and probably start coaching there if he even does it any more at all. If he is going to leave this would be the year he does it because he has a daughter that is getter ready to be a freshman next year and if he stays and lets her start high school here he will be here for 4 more years, but if he choses to leave she can start high school in S.C. His son is in 4th grade, so he could have the same decision to make in 4 more years, whether or not to call it quits after his daughter graduates. So his options are retire this year, or wait 4 more years, or wait 8 more years. Never know what will happen when it comes to family choices, have to do what is best for the family.

But rumor has it, Coach Whitman will be the next coach at PCC.

If Whitman wants the job then it should be his. He has been on the boat with Randy for a long time plus he coached on his own at PCC for a year. He really is the reason Perry is so good anyway. He brings that Louisville Ricky Pitino style ball to Perry. :ylsuper:

He does all the dirty work behind the scenes for Coach Napier. He has really paid his dues and deserves lot of credit for the programs success.
