While I don't fully realize why it takes high school sports to teach us about being from the same planet and looking out for our brothers and sisters, I do appreciate the fact that high school sports are powerful.

 

As some know, Cincinnati Taft had their football uniforms torched in a deliberate act. Taft is in a very poor section of Cincinanti and former Bengal Mike Martin has done unbelievable work in getting the football program going again. I think at one time they may have had as few as about 15 players on the team.

 

As you can imagine, they were devastated when they lost their uniforms. Enquirer columnist Paul Daugherty's column is a must read . Hopefully, it will inspire all of us to do more for each other.

I have met Coach Martin when working at WLW. His spirit is very contagious. If there is anyone who can motivate the Senators...to take something positive out of the fire...it's Coach Martin.

A great article in the Cincinnati Enquirer this morning. Hats off to Colerain, Jeff Ruby and others for stepping up in a time of need to help out an inner city Cincinnati school. There will be many positive lessons learned from this tragic event and many student athletes from Taft will be better for the life experience.

I mentioned previously that I'm not a big fan of Jeff Ruby. I respect him for his success though and while I'm always cynical about anything he does that somehow makes it to the press , he did the right thing and forked over $15k.

 

So here's to Jeff Ruby.

Absolutely, Mike is a class act and what he hs done at Taft in itself is a miracle. Hats off to all of those that were able to contribute.

Great story, we can all learn a lot from it.

In light of allegations of dog fighting, armed robbery to retrieve memorabilia, referees betting on games, illegal videotaping of signs, etc., etc., stories like this kind of lift you up. Nice to see positive, hopeful sports stories for a change.

When someone does something like that, burning their uniforms, it just shows a shear lack of respect. The only reason they would do that is because they're jealous and don't have what it takes to be a football player.
