NKY football: tops in state???

Featured Replies

I noticed that in the current BGP rankings and AP polls, the top team in 3 of the 6 football classes is a NKY team (Beechwood in 1A, NewCath in 2A, and Highlands in 5A). No other KY region has this many. Is NKY tops when it comes to KY high school football? If not, which region is, and why?

Its either NKY or Louisville. But these rankings are nothing new those 3 teams are always at the top of their classes, but just now since NCC got moved up to 2A they give us another #1 in another class...

Keep in mind, NKY is not tops in 3A or 4A........but there are no 3A or 4A schools up here.

We only compete in 1, 2, 5 and 6A.

Ranked #1 in 3 of the 4.

It must be something in the water and maybe just maybe the many youth football leagues that help to develope good players up here . Look at Campbell Co where 5 of the 7 football schools ( Highlands , NCC, Bellevue ,Dayton and Campbell Co. ) are undefeated after 2 games .

Good point about the talent being related to youth programs. NKYFL is great and Fort Thomas has their own league. I remember when we were in Fort Thomas Youth League in the late 80's we would combine an all-star team to play in the Cranberry Bowl against the Newport Firefighters. Man those kids hit so hard and were so fast. We got spanked both years that I went. That says something about the talent going to Newport/NCC. Campbell Co Red Devils are good-Campbell Co High School is good. Spartans-Beechwood/Cov Cath. Boone Co, Conner, and Ryle have BCYFL. So if all of you haters out there wonder where we keep getting them from, look at the last names. They are the same ones that were here 20,30,40,50+ years ago. To be able to promote competion and teach a watered down version of what you will be learning in high school explains why these schools are the best. If you looked at Louisville's youth programs you would see the same thing. It all starts with discipline and dedication by the youth of our communities.

This explains it perfectly.
