Special Stories for Special Teams....

After one week of the HS football season, does anyone have some info on outstanding Special Teams play? Kick Off, Kick Return, Punt, Punt Return, Field Goal, Field Goal Defense, etc.

 

If would be neat to keep a running list of Special Teams plays throughout the season:...

I know in the Grant County vs Pendleton Co game Saturday that Grant Counties Justin Mertz returned the opening kickoff back 86 yards for a touchdown, he almost had a punt return that he was tackled on the 5 yard line on and an interception that he toed the sideline on and stepped out at the 26 on He caught several passes as well. he performed was all over the field

Raceland kicker Jacob Sparks kicked 3 Fg's in the Rams 23-20 win over Ashland. His 38 yarder with no time on the clock was the game winner. Sparks was also 2-2 in PAT's.

Mason County's kicker went 3-4 on point afters.

 

SHE missed the first one, then connected on the final three attempts.

Very special. How often does a kid get a chance for a game winning field goal at the high school level. I would have loved to see the celebration.

Bell County's all-state kicker, Monte Merrick (Class of 2009) had great opening game against Lincoln County. 4-4 on PAT's; 5-6 touchbacks on kickoffs; 1-3 FG's (misses were from 54 and 58 yards.) Hit several this week from 60 yards in practice. Right opportunity, and Pettrey's record could fall this season. He also had one punt....which pinned Lincoln inside the ten yard line. Best stat....0 return yards all night for Lincoln. They never touched the ball on special teams!

Any Week 3# additions...

Winston Hines for Pulaski had a MONSTER return game against Somerset in Week 1, a Touchdown an 2 or 3 long returns deep into SHS's territory.

Best stat....0 return yards all night for Lincoln. They never touched the ball on special teams!
