St. X 18 Ballard 14

I know the reporters can quote anything that they want. But maybe the freshman wouldn't have the openning loss in the new stadium if the varsity would have played Moeller or Cincinnati St. X like Trintiy.

Classic...enough said.

No touchiness here...just amazed at how the MG boulder that is carried around on the shoulders of so many "experts" doesn't cause severe back problems.

Personally knowing the man very well as I do, I am 100% confident that he finds great enjoyment and personal satisfaction in the fact that his words are so meaningful to so many "informed" individuals aka critics so I guess in reality-he wins. As for the "tightness"...how are you so sure that Coach G's expertise doesn't deserve the credit for removing the player's (understandable) butterflies and leading the Tigers to victory? Newsflash....HS kids get nervous-especially under extreme conditions like last night.

Well, now Mike doesn't have to worry about losing first. No excuses now, I guess. :jump:

What is the word on senior linebacker Ben Devine's status? The word is he has a broken jaw. Can anyone confirm this?

It's true! The injury situation has gotten even worse for the Tigers.

Very sorry to hear this news. Will Ben need to have his jaw wired? How long will he be out?

^ I don't know about the wiring...but a broken jaw...generally requires surgery which would mean a minimum of 6-8 weeks....ouch, that really stinks for a senior.

He had surgery on Saturday, and will probably be out at least six weeks. That is a tough injury for anyone, but it is truly devestating when you are a senior.

^ Lets hope and pray that he has a full recovery. It would be great to see him fully recovered and actually get to play in a few games this year.

I agree...Godspeed young man.

I wonder how Ballard's best RB feels not being able to participate in what could have been his school's biggest victory in years, possibly ever?

Being forced to use third string middle LB led to Ballard rushing success according to St. Xavier staff member. I understand five hours of surgery for the broken jaw which was a result of someone falling on him after the tackle.

Glad SR. Joe Montano could be the "hero". I understand he's been carrying the "legacy" tag his entire carrer and that can be weighty.

The Ballard film crew on the visitors side were relieved it wasn't a blowout.

I was somewhat surprised by that take.

Hope the rest of the Tigers are healed up by September 28.

I'm sure he has some answering to do to his teammates and coaching staff-hopefully he will learn from his mistake and flourish the rest of the year. Self-inflicted reasons for not being able to play doesn't draw much sympathy here. I have much more regret for players like Matt Smith and Nick Heuser who are just as big of impact players for their team and are forced to be on the sidelines due to injury during one of the most anticipated nights St. X football history.

I hope the LB recovers fully with his broken jaw. But I'm confused how a jaw can be broken with a helmet and face mask attached!!! My first thought was someone hit him with a fist from underneath the mask, but from someone just falling on him, I still remained confused. I'm sure he is wondering how it happend as well. I wish him well......

I think I may have a different view.

Frankly I am not concerned with the feelings of a suspended player, similar to I don't think Atlanta Falcons fans care about Mike Vick's feelings. If a player breaks the rules (albeit that Sir Weakley's offenses do not compare to Vicks) then he loses the privilage of representing his school. I will submit that the Ballard fans I talked to think Perkins is the better back.

I also heard that Ballard's T J Prior did not play against Henry Clay, possibly due to injury. That might of led to Henry Clay having the upper hand. I was impressed with his poise and ability to avoid the rush.

Ben Devine stepped into the hole and made the tackle and pulled the ball carrier with him to the ground. Perkins might of landed on him because he jumped right up and ran off the field and told the St X staff that he thought he lost a tooth. The jaw is broken in two spots so the initial tackle may have caused the initial break. The back falling on him may have added to it.

Joe really stepped in because alot of people don't know that the two sophomore backs sustained injuries against Henry Clay so with Deuce out with leg cramps, it was Joe's job to make it happen. He really came through.

Finally, X needs to get healthy for August 31. I heard they have a game on September 28 but as the mash unit gets more crowded, X's advantage in depth goes out the window. That will allow an opponent that is lower ranked than the September 28th foe to take advantage. Enough about September 28th, this is an X-Ballard thread.
