August 2, 200719 yr Squirrel season will be upon us here in a couple of weeks. I like a lot of people started my hunting at an early age going squirrel hunting with my Dad. This is a great way to learn good woodsmanship and it does teach valuble lessons in other hunting, like deer hunting. Being quiet, watching how and where you walk as not to make noise, being careful of your movement and not to move at the wrong time or the squirrel is gone (they have very good eyesight), many other skills that it takes to be a good squirrel hunter leads to being a good all around hunter. Good luck to all hunters out there and stay safe, have fun and bring home some "squackers" for the squirrel and dumplins' or fried squirrel, gravy and cat head biscuts. Ummm Ummm, that is slap your grandma good.:thumb:

August 5, 200719 yr Since we're on the subject of squirrels, I get my running/walking in everyday at the walking track at Prestonsburg Community College, down by the river. There are 5 or 6 solid black squirrels that are always there hanging out by the bird feeders. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen a black squirrel before. They are a pretty cool looking little animal!

August 7, 200719 yr We have 2 gray and a red. They don't eat from the bird feeders, may be because of the dogs going out to potty. We feed them up on the hill.
August 7, 200719 yr I have seen several white squirrels in Mt. Vernon, Ky.---Rockcastle County in our subdivision!!!!! I bet the white ones are beautiful and would be quite unsual to see. I have taken several black squirrel in over 40 years of hunting but have never seen a white one. To see one would be great and I'm not sure I would shoot it, except maybe with my camera.
