Squirrel Season

Squirrel season will be upon us here in a couple of weeks. I like a lot of people started my hunting at an early age going squirrel hunting with my Dad. This is a great way to learn good woodsmanship and it does teach valuble lessons in other hunting, like deer hunting. Being quiet, watching how and where you walk as not to make noise, being careful of your movement and not to move at the wrong time or the squirrel is gone (they have very good eyesight), many other skills that it takes to be a good squirrel hunter leads to being a good all around hunter. Good luck to all hunters out there and stay safe, have fun and bring home some "squackers" for the squirrel and dumplins' or fried squirrel, gravy and cat head biscuts. Ummm Ummm, that is slap your grandma good.:thumb:

Your mention of the dumplins and squirrel gravy sure sounds great. I have a few in the freezer left over from the Spring season so I now know what we will have for supper.:ylsuper:

:thumb: Absolutely, I don't have any kids but I can still remember the times hunting with my dad vividly. Again, I miss you Dad and I love you.

Since we're on the subject of squirrels, I get my running/walking in everyday at the walking track at Prestonsburg Community College, down by the river. There are 5 or 6 solid black squirrels that are always there hanging out by the bird feeders. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen a black squirrel before. They are a pretty cool looking little animal!

Yes, I have seen and have taken a black squirrel. I wish that I woud have had it mounted just bc of the unusual coloring of it.

There were 2 out this morning eating out of the bird feeders. They are a deep black color. Very unusual!

We have 2 gray and a red. They don't eat from the bird feeders, may be because of the dogs going out to potty. We feed them up on the hill.

I've not been Squirrel hunting several years.

I have seen several white squirrels in Mt. Vernon, Ky.---Rockcastle County in our subdivision!!!!!

I bet the white ones are beautiful and would be quite unsual to see.

I have taken several black squirrel in over 40 years of hunting but have never seen a white one. To see one would be great and I'm not sure I would shoot it, except maybe with my camera.

I have seen black squirrels,seems like they are in the north I was in New York when I seen them for the first time. Never seen them around Ky but have herd there are a few around.

Thank a lot but I would'n have it any other way.We will be makin some new memories in just a few weeks I hope.
