August 8, 200719 yr Thank a lot but I would'n have it any other way.We will be makin some new memories in just a few weeks I hope. :thumb: No doubt. Those are memories that your kids will never forget. I guarantee it. Some of the greatest time I ever had with my dad (and I had many) were spent in the woods or on the water. He started me huntng at age 8 and I still remember our first hunt together 43 years later. Good luck on opening day. Hunt safe.
August 8, 200719 yr :thumb: Absolutely, I don't have any kids but I can still remember the times hunting with my dad vividly. Again, I miss you Dad and I love you. Save me as place under that Ol' Scaly Bark Hickory. :thumb: Excellent post Oldrambler!!
August 10, 200719 yr I love to squrriel hunt although havn't been for several years. Took one of my daughters once, she couldn't be quiet. We did have 2 deer walk by but that didn't help. I never was any good at it, as I don't like to sat, but rather keep moving. I see more deer than squrrel. Still its a good day out. I like to listen for them, and stalk em.
August 10, 200719 yr What type of gun will you be using this squirrel season? I'll be hunting with a single shot 410 loaded with 3" # 4 Winchester.
August 11, 200719 yr If I go I will use either a modle 17 S@W or a 10-22 Ruger or a Remington 12 guage.

August 11, 200719 yr Author :thumb: I remember that LC Smith very well. More sentimental value to it than anything, as you know that was the gun my Dad started me out on and gave to me when I was old enough to go and carry a gun. The gun was his years before I came along. I now have his old Remington model 11 semi auto (made off the Browning patent), that one is improved cylinder and is the rabbit and bird gun. Those along with his Savage .22 cal. bolt action riflle. The double barrel killed my first squirrel ever and countless since. I have owned other guns but always end up going back to that one. These old guns have years on them but if a person takes care of a good gun it will last them a lifetime. Seems to me that I remember a 16ga. model 37 Ithica that a guy was very fond of as well, you know anything about that one cville??
August 20, 200719 yr Hunted this morning in Carter Co. I killed two and saw three others. I found one hickory that had a few nuts on it that they were just starting to cut. Both squirrels I got were on the ground as well as the other 3 I saw. I didn't find much mast in the area I was hunting.
August 20, 200719 yr Author ^ Sounds like fried squirrel, gravy and cat head biscuts are on the way. (Or maybe squirrel an ddumplins') :thumb:

Right now they went into the freezer until I can add a few more. With archery deer season just around the corner,I hope to have some fresh backstraps to make the meal complete.
