Highlands will have the best Linebackers in the state as a corp. When you start talking about Hurtt, Stein, Ball, Simons. Hurtt has the speed and aggressiveness at 6'1 200, Stein is an animal and athletic phenom at 6'2 220, Ball is extremely strong and Simons at 6'2 190 will lay some definitel licks. Throw in Cecil at OLB and you have a corp. of fast,strong and aggressive linebackers who will be roaming the field.

Best in the state? They may not be the best in the County. Highlands may be alot better than Campbell County a lot of positions but not at linebacker. Sauerbeck is the best in NKY and add in Woodruff both three year starters. Also Owens. All over 6ft and all between 210 and 230.

I think the answer to this riddle is who has the most depth, I hear of great lbackers at dixie, if they have no depth they are one injury away from mediocracy, how are there dbs and line if I remember correctly, fair. B-Wood got tons of love on the offensive side too. Maybe if i start a special teams thread i'll get away from them. lol. They return a TON!!! and will pretty much beat on offenses all year.

IMO HHS will have the best alla round D this year. Hows CCH's D coming?? Last year their D might have been top 5 in the state, but with a new D coordinator im not sure how it's going to be this year.

I couldn't find anything on Highlands last yrs "D" stats . And Sauerbeck had 66 last yr and 48 the year before .Woodruff ??? Does anyone have Highlands tackle stats from last year ? Brueggeman had 98 from Cov Cath last yr ! I think the other county has the better LB's !

I'm not sure Highlands kept D stats last year. And even if they did, tackling stats aren't very reliable. I've seen players get credit for a tackle if they added on to the pile after someone else had obviously stopped the runner's progress. If that's a tackle, I'm Twiggy.

 

Are Highlands LBers the best in the state or for that matter the County? Who knows and its obviously just a poster's pure speculative opinion. But with Ball, Stine and Hurtt returning as 3 year starters and Fitzgerald returning as a 3 year starter, it would seem Gryche's opinion is as valid as any other poster's opinion on here.

 

As to Dixe's LBers, they may have a bunch of starters returning, but they sure haven't shown much in the way of becoming the best LBing corps in N. Ky. when they've started against Highlands the last two years.

 

As for Brueggeman, nice LBer. Better from my observation than the Dixie Lbers. But keep in mind that most offenses last year were a lot more worried about getting Flynn, Geisen and Sutton blocked than Brueggeman. This year he won't have that "luxury".

 

As for the Camels, I haven't seen them play so I can't and won't speculate.

As leather stated, just my opinion but I will give props to Sauerback who is a stud and should cover a lot of ground for the Camels. I don't know much about Woodruff or the other kid so maybe you could enlighten me a little as I dont follow the Camels since they stopped playing the Birds. I think the program out there is getting much better and always pull for the local county team when they are in the playoffs. Who else do the Camels have on D?

The Camels have alot returning on a defense, that stat wise led NKY last year. Led by 3 year starters Brian Sauerbeck (6ft.1".220lbs) and Jordan Woodruff(6ft.230lbs). Cody Owens(6ft.1" 210lbs.) moves into Nathan Kidwell's spot. Cody played alot last year. Nathan Kidwell moves to QB. They also return 3 year starter Ryan Eaten(6ft.3" 235lbs.) at DE. They have some good DT's that played alot to replace the ones that graduated. They return some DB"s also. The Camels defense will carry this team again. If you get a chance you should catch a Camel game. You too Leather. I always catch a Bird game or two every year.
