No way, I believe that Sosa cheated twice, (steroids, corked bat) and Mcguire also. But Bonds is the only one that is close enough to the homerun record for it to matter. It's a sacred record that is pure and should stay that way. I want justice for baseball and whoever cheated should be gone!

Don't get me wrong, I agree. I wish Bonds would just retire before breaking the record. However, reality is baseball dropped the ball on the steroid era and Bud Selig allowed it to go on to win some fans back. My thought is that he never thought of the implications of a record like this being broken after everyone found out about all of the illegal substances in ballplayers bodies...

I agree, I wish Selig would make a statement admitting he was wrong to let baseball go on like it did, and I also blame baseball in general for the soon to be tainted record. Bonds was a great hitter before he took the steroids but because of the Mcguire vs. Sosa homerun showdown he was left out of the limelight and wanted more attention. He took steroids to get more recognition from the media to compare with Mcguire and Sosa at that time. I was listening to a talk show the other day and the guy had a good point. Short of Bonds coming out and saying he cheated, it will never EVER be proven. Even if you have a video of someone injecting something into his rear end. He can dispute it, saying it was cortisone. They could show a tape of someone holding a tube that says 'STEROIDS' and watch them take that tube of cream and rub it on his muscles and he can claim the tape was 'doctored'. I believe that guy was right, as unfortunate as that is...

Not at all....He's got a slight chance, to repair a small portion of his media problems and he could exhibit some compassion, humbleness and be contrite, whenever he breaks the record.

Yeah, but I don't think it's baseball that's actually making Bonds a sacrificial lamb but more so that baseball is making the sacrifice whoever is close to breaking the record. If it were Mcguire of Sosa I believe that there would be just about the same amount of controversy that Bonds is getting. IMO it's all about protecting the record.

I understand what you're saying but I really feel, the bigger issue is the Bonds personality.

 

How many times, have we seen the "superstars", who are media friendly and well liked, not always have their stories offered and often, not mentioned. Bonds has created his own problems, by often being abrasive, refusing to be interviewed and I think, the backlash of the alleged enhancements is just another problem, he has created for himself.

 

Sometimes, the behavior of the man, reveals the true character of the man.....Bonds has failed, the personality test but he can help undo a lot of negative, if he offers praise to Aaron, Ruth and many before, once he breaks the record. All will never be forgiven or forgotten, but he can take a step in the right direction, of a long, long journey.

I get what your saying, Bonds constantly sticks his foot in his mouth when it comes to speaking with the Media and that may have a lot to do with the fans not liking him because he doesn't respect things the way he should, but I would say it's 50/50 or a little bit sided to one or the other.
