Lets hope so.

I could see the Reds spending some money on Freddy Garcia, he could help us out a lot. Matt Clement would be a good fit, and so would Kris Benson. Not big name players but could come in and have pretty good years. But lets just hope the Reds get out and go shopping this off season, we could use some big time players.

If they were going to spend money on those 3 they might as bring back Eric Milton. Benson has a career record of 68-73 and a 4.34 ERA. Clement is 87-86 with a 4.47 ERA, last threw over 200 Innings in 2003 and had a 6.61 ERA last year. Both Benson and Clement have missed the entire 2007 season with arm surgery. Garcia meanwhile is 1-5 this season with a 5.90 ERA. Any of the three would just be wasted money.

If it's Tommy John, I'd pick them up...

True, there stats are not the best, but who else can the Reds go after? Would they pay over 100 million for Zambrano? Or how about over 50 million on Jason Jennings? Arroyo's record was 33-33 when he came to Cincinnati. Lohse's was 51-63. Milton's, 60-57. Garcia has won 15 or more games 4 times in his career. He has had over 100 strikeouts in 7 of his seasons, and last year he went 17-9. His career era isnt to bad at 4.07. Clements career record isn't the best, but in 2002 he had over 200 strikeouts. Benson had 184 strikeouts in 2000. These guys are not big name players, but could help the Reds out. Garcia isn't done, and Clement isn't either.

Yes, and Arroyo's record with the Reds is 17-21, Lohse 8-16, Milton 16-27. How will adding two more guys like that HELP the Reds? Garcia's ERAs the last 3 seasons: 3.87, 4.53, 5.90. His strikeouts have went down, his homeruns per inning up and his WHIP has risen. He threw a ton of innings when he was in his early/mid-twenties and now he's almost 33--he isn't going to improve. As for Clement, 2002 was 5 years a shot to the head and some arm troubles ago. His stikeout totals for the last three seasons: 190, 146, 43. His ERAs:3.68, 4.57, 6.61--notice the trend? Both of these guys are however, veterans and won't come that cheap. The Reds might as well light that money on fire. This is not going to be a quick fix. If the management is going to spend money on mediocre starters they should at least do it on some that they can count on to pitch every fifth day. Clement, Garcia and Benson are not that guy.
