I would put Maile in my top 5. Arrez at 1 and Simpson a close second. Only saw him play once but Simpson played very little defense and did not seem like he even wanted to be on the court.

Here is my top ten players

 

1. Nic Simpson (Highlands) best all around athlete in the region.

2. Arrez Henderson (Holmes) best defender in the region

3. Corey Sorrel (Holy Cross) one of the top shooters in the region.

4. Steve McFarland (Boone) Top Junior in the region.

5. Josh Nelson (Holmes) probably the best big man in the region.

6. Courtney Anderson (Conner) most underrated player in the region.

7. John Mailey (Ryle) needs to post up smaller defenders.

8. Erik Thomas (Conner) one of the best shooters in the region.

9. Micheal Grimes (Cov Cath)

10. Luke Mace (Dixie) should be the most dominate player in the region with his size.

The most improved player in the 10 is Josh Nelson. 4 yrs ago, he had no clue how to play. Greg Ponzer did a good job with him....I believe Cory Sorrell verbally commited to NKU. But by far.......Arrez is the best player in the 9th. Another GP product. Good job GP!

Not sure from here. But I'd say by the end of the year Chris Bondick and/or Mitch Shover, from CovCath, will be on the list. Both have a head for the game and will get much better with experience.

Eric Thomas will be the leader of that team this year, he will lead them in scoring and assists.

I respectfully disagree as I think Simpson will garner the POY award simply on his offensive production. Yes he needs to step up his defense but when he wants to I am sure he can as he has as much quickness as Arrez he just doesnt use it. Arrez is a heckuva defender, best defense I have ever seen agains the kid from South Laurel in state tourney last year. However, his offensive skills are limited. He hangs around the rim alot and gets many points in the paint but until I see him consistently stroke a jumper from 15 ft out or have as good a handle as Simpson I will go with Nic.

I was right there with you as late as early last season in the thinking that Arrez was only good inside. I then saw him start lighting it up from the outside with a very, very smooth jumper. He doesn't utilize it enough.

 

You may be correct on the POY. I'm simply stating that if you made me vote, I'd take Arrez #1 overall with Simpson being, hands down, the best offensive player.

He's the complete player...shoots, handles, defends, rebounds...just needs to stay healthy and HHS will be a serious threat by years end!! He and Nic will be Batman and Robin...the Dynamic Duo!

Athletic, a lot of potential, and a nice kid, but you would be hard pressed to place him in front of any of the following:

 

Arrez Henderson

Nic Simpson

Steve McFarland

Luke Maile

Corey Sorrell

 

Needs to improve his shooting and ball handling first. In addition, Boone has 4 sophs that are just as good IMO, based on head-to-head AAU experience.

 

A top 5 athlete, but not a top 5 basketball player at this point. He has the potential to be top 5 player in the next year or so.

I think a case could be made that Alex Hall deserves a place on this list.
