July 10, 200719 yr Author Well....that the one true Church is the Catholic Church, of course! All the rest were formed as a dissent to the Catholic Church. That's very fundamentalist Protestant of you. Show me a good tuna casarole recipe and I may be able to make you an honorary Baptist.

July 10, 200719 yr Well....that the one true Church is the Catholic Church, of course! All the rest were formed as a dissent to the Catholic Church. Actually a quit significant fact.
July 10, 200719 yr It's not Pope Benedict's position. It's the position of the Catholic Church. There's a difference?
July 10, 200719 yr Author Actually a quit significant fact. I think so also. (Although I'm sure my reason is different from yours)
July 10, 200719 yr There's a difference? I'm trying to illustrate that the Catholic Church as an entity holds that position. It's not that Pope Benedict just pulled a rabbit out of the hat. He's simply reinforcing what is already the Catholic position.
July 10, 200719 yr I'm trying to illustrate that the Catholic Church as an entity holds that position. It's not that Pope Benedict just pulled a rabbit out of the hat. He's simply reinforcing what is already the Catholic position. Well, I don't feel so bad then about my pastor's position on the Catholic "Church".
July 10, 200719 yr Author Well, I don't feel so bad then about my pastor's position on the Catholic "Church". I've actually enjoyed this thread very much. I think we can all come down from our "tolerance" high horse now and have discussions as equals with different opinions.
July 10, 200719 yr King David was also chosen by God to lead his people... didn't mean he wasn't still human. We are all capable of mistakes and even the Pope himself can err. David was actually the leader of God's people, not the church. The Prophet Samuel was the spiritual leader. I can only speak of the Catholic Church from what I have been taught. I thought the Pope not only interoperates the bible for the church, but his interoperatations become the beliefs of the church. Therefore if he is given this much confidence by God, who in the Church can question him?
July 10, 200719 yr King David was also chosen by God to lead his people... didn't mean he wasn't still human. We are all capable of mistakes and even the Pope himself can err. Not being argumentative here but this really confused me on the Catholics view of the Pope. How do you follow his statements on things that are not spelled out in Scripture if he can err?

July 11, 200719 yr Well....that the one true Church is the Catholic Church, of course! All the rest were formed as a dissent to the Catholic Church. Some would argue not a dissent but staying faithful to Jesus' church when the Catholic Church strayed.
July 11, 200719 yr The only thing I want to point out is that you can trace back through history the origins of most Protestent religions to a defection with the Catholic Church. This is true. ALL protestant faiths can be traced back through history to a human founder . . . except true Baptists . . . True Baptists are not protestant because we never "protested", broke away, or defected from the Catholic church---we were never a part of the Catholic church. The baptist church was established during Christ's personal ministry here on earth----although we have been known by various names throughout history (most given to us by our enemies) Ana-baptists, Waldenses, Donatists, Paulitians, etc. As for Pope Benedicts comments . . . I personally am not offended I would expect devout Catholics (and I assume the Pope would fit into this category) to propogate Catholic dogma. I may not agree but I would expect him to say that if he is honest in what he believes.
July 11, 200719 yr What does interoperatations mean? You'll have to excuse me. I am the product of a public school education.
