June 15, 200719 yr “This city is really a model of what we look for,” CBA president and CEO Ricardo Richardson said during the press conference. “Pikeville is on the upswing in its growth pattern and we want to be a part of it.” http://www.news-expressky.com/articles/2007/06/14/news/01team.txt Word is that former UK players will be on the team...
June 15, 200719 yr I will definitely be going to some games. Should be something fun to do on a weekend! When will the rosters be filled/??
June 15, 200719 yr Did the article say how many fans are needed to break even? One year and they're done IMO.

June 15, 200719 yr That sounds pretty cool. If they do in fact end up with some former UK/UL players I'd think that would really help ticket sales. BRJB how many people does the Expo Center seat?
June 15, 200719 yr Author ^7,000 for concerts and around 5,500 for basketball I believe. It looks like a miniature Rupp Arena. Really cool...Jay Fiedler and his partner were in Pikeville for the 15th Region tournament, which was packed every night and just an awesome atmosphere. They loved it. http://www.eastkyexpo.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=28

June 15, 200719 yr At least read the article before declaring them dead in the water before they ever get started, lol... 1. OK. I read it. 2. Still doesn't say the break-even. 3. When does this league play? What months? 4. Why will it make it in Pikeville and not the other cities?

Hopefully this will do well. I actually think a team like this would have a better chance of succeeding in a place like Pikeville rather than in Lexington or Louisville. There's too many other things to do in a bigger city plus most basketball fans would go to the college games vs. the CBA. Pikeville should be able to draw people from the surrounding area and I'd say if they get a favorable lease the break even level shouldn't be that high. Didn't minor league baseball used to do pretty well in Pikeville?

I doubt seeing it work either, unless there is a major sponsor commitment. Too many other activities, during the winter for fans/parents to stay involved with and spend money on. I don't see the attendance, being very good.

June 15, 200719 yr It all depends on how organized it is and how much they really want it to succeed. I live in Pikeville and it's quite boring. And actually the Expo Center polled people in Pikeville to see what kind of pro sport they'd want in Pikeville and I'm pretty sure the majority said basketball. It could work if there is a good effort put to it. PS. I am pictured in some of the 3 on 3 shoot out pictures in the expo gallery.

However, the basketball fan who can't get enough may buy a ticket. As I said, if you made me vote, I'd say its a short-timer in Pikeville.
