Ryle 10 Ludlow 0

Featured Replies

Just to put the Ryle 07 season into prospective, they have scored 315 runs and allowed only 118 runs in 36 games so far this year, which is the most runs scored and the fewest runs allowed. Compare this to Daytons 120 runs allowed in an 11 game season, it's quite impressive. If this is down, I don't want to be up.

Weiss was and has been, most of the season, very impressive and very composed. Great to see a great kid get that recognition and have that success. York pitched so much better than the results infer. He kept Ryle hitters at bay for a good portion of the game and made them work at scoring their runs. Too many pitches and too many costly mistakes are what doomed him ultimately.

Whoever (I know who) said that the Region is weak after seeing Ryle really needs to consider following Communist kick-ball or something. Ryle was quite impressive defensively and offensively against a pretty strong pitcher today and they have been playing outstanding baseball for awhile now. CovCath, while I was less impressed with them yesterday, also faced a very, very tough guy on the mound and came away with a solid victory.

I am the one who said it, and no I dont need to follow communist kick ball. I have seen all the top teams this year, and the top teams this year dont come close to the top teams that the 9th has had in the years past...

Future coach must have been one of Ludlow's 30 fans that was crying audibly when 2 calls did not go his/her way. (don't want to assume that future coach is a he). Be proud of your Panthers without belittling refs, other teams, the 9th region, etc. Hmmm? Seems to be a pattern here. I agree with old guy that the steal safe call was clearly the right call. The force play was extremely close and could have gone either way. Best wishes to all of Ludlow's seniors!

I was not crying at all, I just shook my head, because I have grown use to seeing calls like that go against smaller schools. It happens every single game for smaller schools, or schools that are going against a team that they are not suppose to beat...

There was two calls in the first two innings that had a big impact. Ryle in the first inning scored 2 runs in the first inning, but shouldn't have scored any. The catcher missed a ball that should have been error because it should have been caught, but it went down as a wild pitch and the scored from third for one run. But the guy ended up gettin walked and making 1st and 3rd with two outs, and the guy on first tried to steal second and the guy looked clearly out but was called safe and the guy on 3rd scored in the proces. So unless the 2nd baseman missed the tag, the guy was clearly out. But Ryle got the benefit of the doubt on the play and got one more run out of it. Then in the second inning with two outs basesloaded there was was a grounded in the hole that Ludlow field and threw to second for the force, but the ump called him safe when once again I think the Ryle fans would even admit that he was out, so they scored a run on that and scored two more after that play. So it should have been just a two run inning, instead it was a 4 run inning. So the game should have just been a 3 to 0 game instead of a 6 to 0 game and something like that is huge, because it kills any confidence in a team that is trying to get a big upset over the #1 team in the region. I not saying Ludlow would have won, because they couldn't come close to hitting the pitcher today, but still it just gets old seeing big school or respected programs get all the close calls. I have seen it to many times for many different schools besides just Ludlow...

Of course you were closer to the second base bag than the umpire was today? It was nice that the KHSAA had four, count them four, umpires today so the play at second that you are complaining about had a man in blue right on top of the play, not more than a couple of feet away. Now I was seating in the second row behind home plate and trust me I thought the call was the correct one and even it wasn't the man in Blue was right where he was suppose to be. BTW the gentlemen who I was sitting with today graduated from Ludlow High School and he was extremely disappointed at the lack of fans that Ludlow brought to the game today. Me, it didn't matter, but he a Ludlow Alum was none to pleased about the lack of fan support for his Panthers........

Yeah well hmm that umpire that was at second that was only a couple of feet away, also blew a call on that force out at second, that I believe even a Ryle fan admitted he was out. So dont give me that since the umpire was the closest it must have been the right call, he definitely blew that force out call and most people agree with that. That steal was a close play, and if he did get the tag down he was out! Now the only question is if he tagged him and maybe the umpire saw him not tag him, and then thats fine. But if he tagged him, then he did get him before he got to that base...

Now for the fan support, I agree I was disappointed with the lack of fans there! In other regional games Ludlow has been in, they have had a really good following. However there was not as many there today. And the only reason I can think of is most people realized that this Ludlow was not the greatest and benefited from the weak district, and probably was not going to win. However I dont agree with that, because they still should have came out to support the team!

I'm impressed with a)your passion and b)your ability to type despite that big chip on your shoulder.

Well I dont know where you went to high school at. However I just going to assume that you went to a big school. So until you have gone to a small school and seen over and over again how the close calls ALWAYS go the big schools ways, then you will understand where I am coming from. I usually dont see much about this, but it really is just getting old seeing stuff like this over and over again for all small schools. I dont know if its like this all over the state, but the refs in all sports up here in NKY are just not that good and usually are bias in their calls in games when it comes to close plays...

Bad calls occur all the time. And sometimes it takes the mentally strong teams to be able to overcome those and just focus on getting the next hitter because the call is not going to change. This applies for big school vs. big school, small school v. small school, or big school v. small school. You have to put the calls behind you.

Yes that is true, but when you are a small school you already have alot up against you trying to upset a bigger school, and then to have alot of the close calls always go in favor of the bigger school or the team that is suppose to win, it will hurt a teams confidence and their chances at winning...

Let me get this straight I not saying Ludlow woudl have won yesterday if those calls had happen, because they would not have. Ryle was and is the better team, and Ludlow could not touch that pitcher. However I was just stating as a whole that happens all the time to small schools, and I just getting tired of it. I just hope the rest of the state doesn't have umpires that when its a close play, they assume that the bigger school or better team just have done the right thing and give them the call...

How big is Beechwood?

How big is Beechwood?

Really small when I was there and I don't remember more calls going against us when we played larger teams. Of course, every call against us was a bad call when I was there. :D

How big is Beechwood?

Hey nice try! If you back through this thread or even the comment you quoted of mine, you will see that I not only say bigger school, I also say or for the better team or more respected program. Because I have seen big schools get the shaft on calls (Holmes), when they play a team that is a more respected program than theirs. And Beechwood is a respected program, and people think of them as a top program. It just seems up here in the 9th region when their is a top program in a game, that those teams usually would get the close calls over the other team if the other team is not known to everyone as a top program...But hey nice try using the Beechwood thing, but it really didn't work since I had addressed completely what I meant in that post you commented. Better luck next time though...:thumb:

Top team usually don't get the calls for them, any more than the lower teams get them going against them. The top teams usually make the plays, while the lower teams don't. The top team usually don't put themselves in a position to have a bad call cost them a game especially against a lesser opponent, while like it or not, the lesser team always seem to not make the play that would give them a victory, and that is why they are the lesser team. Top teams usually don't beat themselves....The lesser teams do it all the time....

So really then the size of the school has no bearing in your mind. Its all a matter of respect, correct?

I'll say Ludlow gets pretty close to the respect it deserves. I don't think many educated folks look at them as a bad program. They had a good run a few years ago with the graduating class of 2005 and have some solid players sprinkled in here and there.

They're simply not where you think they are IMO.

I'm a fan of the entire Ludlow system so there's no bias on my part.

I disagree with that, because I think that thread I made shows that it doesn't get the respect it deserves for it has done atleast in this decade...

What games you watching? I know mostly any game I see and not just the Ludlow games, when a top team plays a lower team they usually get the benefit of the doubt on close calls. It happens all the time all over this 9th region. I know when Ludlow plays a lesser team than them that they have to play in conference say Heritage, if there is a close call it goes Ludlows way. And that is not right either! As I said I dont know how the umps are in the rest of the state, but the umps in the 9th region do stuff like this all the time...

Also your right the lesser team usually does not make the play that would give them the victory, but why is that? I mean you seem like a smart guy, and I sure you played sports. When you play a lesser team than you, you have all the confidence in the world, and the more confidence you have the better you play and the less mistakes you make. So when a top team plays a lesser team, they come in with all kind of confidence and feel not much pressure while the lesser team doesn't come in as confident and knows that they have to make every play to have a chance to win. Which in turn knowing that one little mistake could kill your chances at a upset, it usually leads to more mistakes. So when the top schools get the close calls, it really puts even more pressure on the lesser school to have to make a play, and that makes more bad plays happen. Just look what happens when a lesser team hangs in with a top school for most of the game, you see that top school start to tighten up and they usually start make mistakes. Its all about confidence, because top schools dont feel any pressure because they expect to win against the lesser schools. However when a top school play another top school they feel some pressure and you see them make mistakes they usually dont make. Just look at the 9th region championship game. Both teams made tons of mistakes they normally wouldn't make but they felt the pressure. Ryle made stupid throws that got away, CovCath was dropping routine fly balls. Do you think they drop them against a lesser team, most likely not. Because there is no pressure on them and they are confident. While the lesser teams feel the pressure to have to make every play, and when you think like that you do worse. So when that close call always goes to the top school, it kills the confidence of the lesser team, and leads to even worse performance...

If you all really think about what I am saying, you would understand!

We have several photos captured from video and still photos of missed calls that went against Ryle. So much for the "small school or underdogs getting screwed therory. It's not a perfect science but I doubt any adult umpire would intentionally want to influence the outcome of a game. If so, they would have to live with that.
