Can anyone recommend any good basketball camps? 6'7" big man needs camp.

Univ. of the Cumberlands has a good Big Man camp. I think it is the first week of the dead period. Lots of drill and skill work with some of the best high school and small college coaches in the state.

Does anyone have any experience with camps for middle school boys? I am not looking for a babysitting camp but one that will make them work and one that will teach.

UC has some good camps geared towards older elementary kids and middle school players. Tubby used to have a camp that was good for middle school players too.

 

Not too much on individual camps besides Blue-Chip. Once you get in high school camps put on by universities/colleges are a waste of time and are geared towards less athletic players, as well as for PR. The colleges and universities know that the best players, the ones they want to see the most, are playing in elite tourneys and the nationals in the summer. Just depends on how athletic the players are in HS, but middle school kids they could get a lot out of it, and have fun too.

 

Now, some universities and colleges have had very good specialty camps, such as the UC big man camps in the past, not sure if they still have them, but they are not where you will get noticed if that is what you are looking for.

Best camp for middle school age is Transylvania.

I always looked forward to Don Layne's Transy camp. Back in my day there were some very good middle school players attending that camp.

Transy does have a good camp. Fundamentals yes, big man camp...maybe?

VA Tech used to have a very good fudamental camp teaching great fundamentals. I always heard good things about it.

Is Gillispie having a camp this summer for youngsters? Is the Transy overnite camp recommended for 3rd and 4th graders or better suited for middle school?

I always looked forward to Don Layne's Transy camp. Back in my day there were some very good middle school players attending that camp.

 

Transy was a great camp when I was a middle schooler back in the day, loved the cut throat competition and the horrendous picture with Don Layne.

 

I highly recommend Stan Kimbrough's Skills Camp in Cincinnati. This is an intense skills camp my son went to last year as a 5th grader. In fact I am sending 9 more kids to him in 3 weeks from our Middle school teams. The workouts are small, usually only 10-20 kids max and there are no T-shirts at the end of the week which should tell you its all about sweat and hard work and not babysitting or PR.
