There is no way 46 teams played a tougher schedule than Beechwood .Dunbar 3 times ,Appollo,Lex Christian ,Owensboro Cath ,and all the teams ranked in the top 3 in No.Ky.

Very true. A more legitimate question than Ryle's strength of schedule.

 

That being said, I realize this is only one guy's effort at putting together the rankings and I think it's interesting what he's done and appreciate his efforts. I was just curious to know the criteria he used for the SOS, as it would appear on the surface to have some inconsistencies.

Maybe I'm just a whimp? or maybe I'm just out of touch with current 'adult' interest in h.s. sports? But these threads that evolve into mini arguments with hints of anomosity and ugliness I find a little distasteful. I am excited and impressed with the Raiders success; as well as the Colonels. I root for my team, but I respect the talent and the effort of the others, congratulate them on a job well done. I wish nothing but health for all the players, and great plays by everyone....and utimately for my Colonels to step up and make the bigger play. Analysis of play both good and bad is fun...opinions and second guessing, I suppose are too; but I sense a deeper emotion aimed at bringing down the other...that doesn't fit imo. I cheered for the Raiders great play in a congratulatory manner as they absolutely outplayed my Colonels this day...I carry no desire to them fall or to cheer against them...just encourage and root for mine. The past is wonderful, but terribly irrelevant here; the poy will go to the kid who makes his mark this post season...good luck to all! The strength of schedule is about as useful an argument as whose bed is harder to sleep in at night...there may be some fact in there...but does it really add any insight to the debate since it's almost entirely subjective?

 

Ryle is the better overall team this year imo...their pitching is better, they hit, and they play fundementally sound. I will be rooting for CCH to make it back and hopefully get another chance to step up against them....but I wish the best for the Raiders and if they should continue to get it done through the region, I will be rooting for them to win it all! Thanks for indulging my ultruistic sappy thoughts.

I agree with you LETMPLAY .I too love to watch good baseball .Do not root against kids .I too will hope the best for my school and will root for whoever makes it to state .

 

I was curious about the rankings because I thought they were computed somehow .If they are ones opinion ,they are just that -OPINIONS

I agree with your analysis. How much of a factor is it for the Raiders to be a senior-dominated team vs the Colonels who play so many (talented) SOPHS?

 

I ask this just in theory and am in no way predicting a matchup. I'm not the smartest guy but I do know the tremendous challenge the Colonels face against a very talented and motivated HC bunch.

I certainly agree with everything you've said . . . except the above. In today's sports world - professional, collegiate, high school, whatever - a lot of emphasis is placed on rankings, and a big part of rankings is the strength of schedule. I personally have always found it one of the more interesting part of the ranking process as I follow my favorite basketball teams (of which one, sadly, is UC). So when a high school baseball ranking comes out such as this Top 50 - and not knowing its source or formulas used - I don't find it an inappropriate or offensive question to inquire how the rankings, or part of the rankings, were developed. I certainly don't think I was being accusatory or beligerent, or at least it certainly wasn't my intent. This is my son's first high school baseball season and I'm still learning about all the intricacies of local/regional/statewide competitions, rankings, playoff processes, etc...

I agree with you...tomorrow is going to be a good one! But in theory...the experience advantage is a factor, but the pitching is a bigger one imo. Hopefully we can revisit this topic in about a week or so...

Cov Cath vs. Holy Cross should be a titanic struggle. After the two regular seasons both these schools had, it is hard to believe that one of them will not be moving on. I have far more reason to root for CC based upon some friendships with JV players/families there, but after watching HC play Ryle this past week, I think they just might have the edge. (And, of course, Ryan pitching probably won't hurt their chances any.)
