Absolutely. The winner of that game deserves to go to the regional and will likely go far. Tates Creek has to get over the defensive problems that bothered them toward the end of district play, and Dunbar has to get over the hitting problems that plagued them toward the end of district play, but it could be a great game. Last year, Dunbar was the #3 seed and played LCA in the first game, LCA was higher ranked, but Dunbar won the game. Can Tates Creek do the same to Dunbar? Quite possible. It has been a while since Tates Creek was in a regional (4 years at least) so this is a huge game for them.

The most important thing for any team in any district imo is Pitching, then there is pitching and some more pitching . After that, don't give an opponet extra outs with errors. As for pitching stategy, throw your best the first district game and come in with your 2nd and 3rd best if need be bc if you lose the first game you are done. Saving anyone for the next game in the district makes NO sense to me.

I am going out on a limb here and say score more runs than the opponent.

Pitchers who stay ahead in the count

Pitchers getting the first out on the first batter of each inning

Pitchers who induce fly balls

Pitchers who can throw the curve and changeup for strikes

2-out RBI hits

Outfield fly balls with a runner on third and less than two outs

Grounders to the right side with runner on third and less than two outs

Teams that don't strike out and hit it on the ground

Outfielders that hit the cutoff man every time

Teams with good defensive third basemen

Catchers and shortstops who keep the ball in front of them

Teams with baserunners that don't get put out at third or home

 

A team that does all these things will be your champion.

To keep it simple i would say the key to winning is scoring more runs than the opposing team which means you win the game.

Ill take Solid Defense but more importantly good pitching, experience and good coaching helps, but if you pitch and glove you will win more games than you lose. Also Fundementaly sound teams seem to far very well in sudden death games. "Offense wins games, Defense wins Championships."

Also i would like to add the mental aspect. Phyiscal mistakes happen, but if you eliminate mental errors, you give your self an even better chance to win.

With the exception of the 43rd district, and some of the others that have a blind draw. The favorites should win and advance. If a team in general has to save pitching at the district level to advance, they most likely would not advance in regionals. The team that gets the lucky draw in the region(against a subpar 2nd seed from one of the other districts gets an immediate advantage).
