A name that I am now hearing from some people is David Fields from over at Murray High. For those of you that know David you know that he is the son of former Mayfield head coach Roger Fields, and David played for Mayfield so he has ties to the area. David in the past few years has helped lead a not so talented group of Murray High Tigers to respectability in the tough 4th District. His style of play would suit Graves County and as far as would a former Mayfield player and son of a Mayfield head coach come to Graves County...well no one would have thought that no one would ever go to Murray High as Tilghman is the long time rival...Graves County the county rival...but Murray is the hated rival with Mayfield.

Just a name being batted around from a few people in the know over at Graves.

Fields is a good coach and has done a fine job at Murray, but I don't see his name being in the mix ... it's one thing for a Mayfield basketball coach to go to Murray, because the Tigers aren't their big rivals in that sport. It's quite another for one to go to Graves because of the proximity, rivalry and feelings between the two schools.

So far there have been 30 applicants for the job at Graves County and the school has stated that they will take applications for the next few days or so, but then start the process of reducing the candidate field to 5 or 6 names for in-depth interviews. The schools new AD says the school is hopeful to announce a new coach by mid-June.

No ... the one thing we're all sure about is that Graves won't hire anyone with a Hatcher connection.

The word out as of this morning is that Graves is set to announce on Monday that TERRY BIRDSONG will be the next head coach.
